I would like to get some feedback on those of you who have used singapore for a while. Do you think the review is enough? Does your child retain the concepts?
I am attracted to it for its simplicity and conciseness, but I had a friend visiting and she commented that one of her son's, who was excellent in math , could get all his daily work correct, but b/c the lack of review in the math program she was using (by the way , it was not singapore) he was not able to retain the math concepts... So this conversation spurred me to ask to those of you who have had more experience with singapore.

I think generally those who stick with Singapore for a while do find it to be enough review for their kiddos to catch on to concepts and retain the information they need to. I was not able to stick with Singapore for this reason-we tried for a year, and found that it did not include enough review for either of my kiddos.

I find the general concensus on this board to be that Singapore is great. When it works, it must work very, very well. It didn't work for us.

You can always buy the practice books if you feel like they are lacking - just a thought.

I have switched from abeka to HOD and using Singapore this year is our first so I have studied the boards and that is what I found.

We have used Singapore for three years and I once had the same doubts. I decided to try A Beka and Horizons. Those curriculums were so jumpy (does that make sense?). They bounced around too many different concepts on one page and my children became confused. The lessons that Carrie has planned for each day for Singapore are such a blessing. The math activities really help one of my kids get it! There are Singapore review books and I have one. I rarely use it. Ultimately, you are the only one who knows what is best for your child! Praying you get a peace about which math to use!

I have used Sinagpore Math from the start and my son is now in the last book 6B. It has plenty of review going back over concepts in more detail each time. They may need some reminders early on, but I have found it to be the best math for my kids. My son is a year ahead and my daughter is a semester behind - so I have one "math kid" and one not. I find that it works well with both kids. Good luck.

I haven't used it that long... just now in 3A, but so far we've just used singapore and the hands on activities. We've never done drills or extra work and I've never had them memorize facts. Jayden now has addition and subtraction well in hand and is starting to grasp and retain some mult and div facts. So for us I'd say it works. Grace is just nearing the end of 1A and she's retaining addition/subtraction facts without extra work.

I think it depends on the person. I LOVE Singapore and I have a friend who LOVES her Saxon with constant facts memorization and constant review. Use what works best for your kiddos.
