I am looking for a curriculum for my special needs daughter, and , would love to hear from others who are using this curriculum with special needs children. I am considering starting with Preparing Hearts for His Glory. Here are some points to consider:
My daughter is 14 ½, and has auditory dyslexia and processing delays (global delays). She reads on a 4th grade level, and can only spell simple words. Her writing, though legible is not fluid. Math concepts still remain allusive along with an age appropriate understanding of time, temperature, money etc. Memorization is difficult. Due to visual-motor delays, her drawing skills are not age appropriate.

My daughter loves structure. She LOVES Bible stories and stories in general which is why I am drawn to this curriculum. She LOVES history! She loves doing lap-books. Though she may not be able to work independently where the curriculum directs, I think she may thoroughly enjoy our reading and working together.

Again, I welcome any input!

I have an 11 dd with auditory processing disorder. We are starting Bigger in the fall, for our first year of home schooling.

I don't have anything helpful to add, but I do think this curriculum is just what my DD needs. It address so many of her strengths and provides wonderful opportuniy for her challenging areas (reading).

I hope it's just what we both need!

My son who is 6 1/2 yrs old, has speech issues, and does have some form of processing disorder although I have no idea what it is. His speech is not much further advanced than our 2 yr old son. However, we have started Little Hearts this year with him and he is honestly blossoming. It is such a joy to see him learning with excitement, seeing him remembering memory verses (although not necessarily 100% correct due to his language issues), and also to see his reading and math progressing beautifully. I feel that this is the perfect programme for him because it pulls him in, in many different ways and helps him to make the connections.

My oldest daughter is doing Preparing with extensions and is loving it. We only found HOD this year, but Preparing is a wonderful programme and I am sure your daughter would be able to make some connections that she wouldn't necessarily with other programmes. I love the discussions I am having with my daughter. She has grown so much in her understanding and ability to understand in only 8 units of Preparing. I look forward with joy to the rest of the year.

My almost 9yo daughter has some processing delays, especially in math, and some visual processing weakness in reading. She has the same delays in math as your daughter. She can't tell time yet, or count money, etc. I'm confident that will change. Her art skills are not age appropriate as well. I don't push that. She probably will be a little slower to work toward independence. HOD has been wonderful for her. This is our second year and she has just blossomed - in her work and maturation. She has learned so much! Given the interests and abilities/disabilities of your daughter, I think you have come to the right place. The history and Bible are great! We haven't used Preparing yet, but I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

We've used LHFHG and are using Beyond for my ds who is 7 1/2 and severely dyslexic (auditory processing disorder) and has dysgraphia (visual-motor disorder). It has been a perfect fit for our family. We've had to modify some of the writing at the beginning of the guide, but ds is quickly progressing and should be able to be on track by the end of the guide. Also, we have to use our own reading/spelling program which is easily done with HOD. My absolute favorite part of HOD are the Bible studies and the learning through living books. DS is only in Beyond, and yet he has already been exposed to some great stories about people and history.

Unless the Lord has other plans for us, I don't plan on using any other curricula.

I have used LHFHG and Beyong LHFHG and am currently using Bigger for my 9 yo Son.He has been diagnosed with as bein on the autistic spectrum and as part of that has Auditory processing disorder and ADHD.He is a reluctant writer.
.I love HOD because it has a user guide with everything set out,its very similar each day.Initially I had DS cover each 'box' with a post it note,now we tick it off.When we started I let him decide which box we would tackle first.Now I decide .It took years to get to that point though!I I had to alter the handwriting program for a lower level because he still forms some letters the wrong way. His reading is coming along - slowly so sometimes we have to find additional readers at the level he is at .
I think your plan is a good one..Preparing is a step up,so I havent used it yet .

I have both a child with dyslexia and a child with auditory processing disorder, and we are using HOD with GREAT success. We did use an Orton-Gillingham based phonics/reading/spelling program with them.

They will thrive with HOD and LOVE the History!!
