Apologia Science

Hi. It's been awhile since I have popped in. We have used HOD with the younger grades. Right now I have two on Beyond and in the fall they will do Bigger. My now 14 (15 in August) daughter (who also did Bigger w/ ext.) will enter 9th in the fall. We always come back and look at HOD. She loves the living books... just the way HOD teaches.
It is hard for me as my other children were not taught this way.
Alyssa loves the apologia science. She has read all the Jeannie Fulbright and also she read Apologia General Science.
She is into missions, loves Compassion International and loves learning about the poor and the needy.
Anyway, will you be doing any of the apologia Science in the high school years? Say the Physical Science by Apologia?
thanks for all you do and we are real excited about MTMM!

Hi Teena,
This is an old post, but Carrie briefly mentions her thoughts regarding Apologia in high school.

There are several of the Fulbright books used in the middle school years.

The great thing about HOD is that it is so easy to substitute in one area or another. This is only our 2nd year in HOD. My oldest (missed out on HOD) has used several of the Apologia high school sciences and we have loved them. My DS (15) who will be using Rev2Rev next year for 9th grade, has already done Apologia physical science. Since physical science is used in Rev2Rev, we will just go ahead and do Apologia biology next year.
Although, I have to admit I almost had him repeat physical science as the projects Carrie has in there look so fun! And I love the idea of the Inventor Study! In the end, I decided to do the Inventor Study as part of History and not do the physical science. All that to say, that it is easy to substitue and I love Apologia, but the HOD science looks very fun.
I have not seen the physical science course used in Rev2Rev, so I can't really compare, but I will say that even though it may not be strictly CM, I am glad my older kids had a chance to do a science which required memorizing, study guides and exams. I love the living books, but I think it is good to at least have an occassional class which exposes them to the way they will be expected to learn in college. Just my humble opinion. I know others may disagree.

Just chiming in to say that the physical science in Rev to Rev teaches the scientific method, has students writing detailed lab reports, and includes quizzes and exams, while providing materials and detailed instructions for the very fun projects, multi-media cd-rom lessons, and is very independent. The advanced version is appropriate for 9th grade science. My science-minded dd loves it, and my non-science dd can't wait to get to it in two years

So far, dd built and experimented with an electric racer, a wooden glider, and a metal steamboat
