I was not able to follow the unit-a-week plan this year with Beyond b/c we do CBS on Weds and CO-OP on Friday. I am planning to do school in the afternoon Weds., this year as our family dynamics will allow it again and am praying about CO-OP or not. But, we had to do HOD just 3-4 days for 20 weeks of the year and just wrapped it around the weekends, etc., as needed.
I can see where doing it M-F would be a huge blessing, but I need to hear from those of you who DID do it that way, what do you do on those weeks that you really do NOT have 5 days to do it in? When an amazing field trip came up, or Veteran's Day week when dad is home a day, or Good Friday week, or Easter.
I was thinking of this last night because although we do school all summer, we wind down a LOT. And then we go full-force again August 20th. DS#1 birthday is Aug. 19. Well, that is a WEDNESDAY this year. So, I'd have to start my HOD all goofy from the start.
SO - what do you do with 4 day weeks?

We have just done an extra day's work one day on the weeks when we know there are only 4 days, like this week! Or, you could add an extra box each of the four days until all boxes are complete for the fifth day's work.

I don't "plan" on our weeks being 4-day weeks, but that's usually what happens anyway....
I would say we are half and half with 4-day and 5-day weeks, but I don't stress over it. Like today....Tuesday, but we just did day 1 of unit 31 today. I just keep going to the next day and try not to worry about doing a whole unit in one week. As long as you get your 180 days or 800 hours or whatever you have to do for your state, you're fine!
(I have been known to do a few things on Saturdays....I want to hurry up and start Beyond!

I'm planning to do 4 day weeks with Bigger this year, and we're just going to do a day's worth of work on each day that we do it...so it will take more "weeks" to finish it. We won't be on Day 1 on Monday... I don't see that this will be a problem.
We are so looking forward to our time in Bigger...everything's organized after some major spring cleaning last week, and a visit from Grandpa who came all the way from Georgia...we may take off with DITHOR this week!

I just do the next day. We seem to end up with 3 or 4 day weeks. We also school year round. Sometimes we only do half of the activites on a day especially when it is nice out. My goal is to finish the book in a year and as long as that happens then we are moving at a decent pace.

That's the great thing about Carrie's use of the word "unit" instead of "week" in HOD. You don't have to feel like it all has to get done in the same single week, or feel behind if you don't get it all done "for the week". Especially if you don't mind schooling in the summer, you could just go day by day and see where it takes you. I'd use a sticky note to keep our place. But if the summer's not an option, then I like the idea of doing an extra box or so each of the 4 days. A 4-day week actually sounds more doable in HOD than in some others I've seen.
HOD seems very flexible.
