Our last day in Preparing...sniff, sniff

~Sigh~ It was a bitter sweet day this past Monday when my ds finished his very, last day in Preparing  At the end of our last box together, he looks at me and say's, "I sure am going to miss Virgil Hilyer." (The author of A Child's History of the World) "I felt like he was my friend."

What an amazing school year this has been our first year using HoD. It has brought His-story to life for my kiddos! I am so thankful to Carrie and her family for the sacrifice of love that went into creating this curriculum. I am looking forward to many more years with HoD :D

That is so sweet what your son said. I am so happy for you all that you have had such a great year! I am sure it was a bittersweet day. I know ours will be too. We've really been enjoying our year in Preparing as well, but as I found from years past, next year will be great too. We all have a lot to look forward in CTC! :D

Yes, Patty! I so agree :D I'm really looking forward to starting CtC too!

I think the biggest (unexpected) blessing was that for the first time ever, we weren't trudging through those last remaining weeks ready to be finished with school like we had been with other curricula. Usually, those last remaing weeks are so hard to get through and leave us feeling whipped and ready for a break. That hasn't been the case this year. HoD is so completely unburdensome. I love that!

My ds will finish Preparing next week. He has grown sooo much this year and truly is enjoying school. Big shout out for Carrie! I was tempted and he didn't object to starting CTC right away. I was going to let him go half pace because this is what we did with Preparing. However, he has grown into the manual and I do not feel he needs to go half pace with CTC. So we will wait until July. We will miss HOD, thank goodness my other 3 aren't finished with their guides. I am going to have him read the extension books from Preparing and do the suggested activities that go with...So we really won't be without HOD.

Someday I will finish our school year in a timely fashion (sniff, sniff). Congratulations on a great year! I love that book and the Preparing year, although I like them all.

I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Preparing. it was the first guide we did when my ds came home from ps. God used it to convince me that I could homeschool and to convince my ds that he really didn't hate school like he thought he did. He teared up on our last day of Preparing. He still talks about some of those books, especially Grandpa's Box.

Oh, ladies! :D This thread blessed me beyond measure today. :D I know what you mean about that sad but excited feeling when finishing a guide. We just finished Bigger Hearts yesterday with my third little guy. :D

We jumped right into Preparing Hearts today and had such a great day. My little guy popped up early this morning eager to get going on his new guide. He was thrilled to have a couple of boxes that he says were just for him (meaning the 'I', or independent, boxes). :D He felt like such a big boy!

I was amazed at how well he did with Preparing Hearts today, and this was my little guy with whom we did half-speed Bigger Hearts for 5 months to allow him to come along in the area of writing. He has truly made huge strides. :D We already finished his first day of Preparing by 11:30. :D I was excited to get Grandpa's Box out again.

Thanks for sharing! :D

Blessings,
Carrie

We will not be finished with Preparing until mid July - but I totally get this! I have thoroughly enjoyed Preparing this year, and while I'll be sad to be done with it ... I have 3 more children coming up behind my oldest that will get to go through it as well.
It's always fun to start a new guide too, though!

Well said, and as we are nearing the end of PHFHG, I will soon be sniff, sniffing along with you, but also eagerly looking forward to CTC! :D Thanks for sharing this inspiration!

Julie

After reading your post others like it I really have to remind myself to savor and enjoy the guide we are currently in! (Beyond) We started homeschooling mid-year and it took some time to find our groove. I'm a list checker by nature so my tendency has been to "get it done" instead of enjoying the process. I'm just now figuring out how to do that and we have 8 units left. It makes me excited to move on to the next guides to hear how great they have been for your families!

Glad to hear that your son enjoyed Preparing so much.. How cute that he found a friend in the author!!! Such personality. :P We are savoring Preparing and taking it to next year. We had many interruptions this past year. We are enjoying it now and I know ds will continue to enjoy the units we are saving till July of next school year. :D :D
I am always in that frame of mind, when I finish one guide and am ready to start another, it's bitter sweet  :D I'm about to do that with LHTH for my 4 year old, who is my youngest
