I have 3 girls that will go through all the books. I'm torn between ordering the classic or the girl sets.

What is your advice, from experience?

I have a boy, but we end up doing a mix. I just pick the books that I think will interest him.

I have mostly used the classic set, but I may buy the girl books for my dd when she goes through the levels. Now with the substitution option, you could buy one of the sets and just sub out one or two from the other set.

I have a boy in beyond and another boy then a girl to follow so I went with the classic set but as I have been putting to get a list together for bigger I have been mixing them and I think that when my dd gets into them I will probably get some that are out of the girl set that I think will interest her more. Also there were a couple of books that we read that I just wasn't crazy about that I am changing up for the next kiddo - not that they were bad books by any means just we had a hard time getting into them so I think we will try something a little different next go :)

So I would pick the set that looks like it would interest them most and substitute what you can.

I would go with the GIRL set! :D The classics they often hear one way or the other, but those GIRL books are just such a delight. Of course, I do have all sons, so perhaps I am dreamily looking at those girl books with a tad bit of wistfulness. I just know my ds LOVED the boy set.

Hooray - I think you'll have a blast with that terrific set of books! :D Tell me the highlights if you get the chance - the really girlie stuff your sweetie pies love, just so I can live vicariously for a moment in the pink side of parenting!

In Christ,
Julie

I bought the girl set. I thought my DD would like them more, and I plan on purchasing the boy set for my son when he is old enough, that way it will change things up for ME a little as well. Then when my youngest gets to them, I can use the girl set again.

That's a really good point! However, I'll be going through the girl sets a few times before we get to boy!

Which Guide? I have a mix and just picked the "best book" for each genre instead of being guided by gender.

Interestingly, one of my SON'S FAVORITE books was Baby Island!!

One of my Daughter's Faves was Misty of Chincoteague...

Go figure! ; )

I'd love to know your guide and tell you what we enjoyed the most!!

OK...Some faves...A Cricket In Times Square, Baby Island, Red Sails To Capri (not even on list, but adventure), Bio of John Audobon, A Mouse Called Wolf, Misty Of Chincoteague, First Boxcar Children Book, CHarlotte's Web of course.

I would order them all!! Because we tend to finish a book before the genre is completed in the guide, we start another in that genre. WE LOVE TO READ ALOUD!! Can you tell?

But, GET Red Sails To Capri!! By far a FAVE Adventure book for my kids. Sonlight has it on their reading list and I picked it up at McKays for 50 cents.

We have also just begun the Narnia series, and they love love love it. But that is Daddy's thing with them.

Sorry to ramble!!

With Carrie's book choices, you really can't go wrong!

The only book I have read that I, personally didn't enjoy was Ginger Pye. But my kids LOVED it. :D

You will have a blast!!

Do go to your library and get a copy of Red Sails to Capri. SUCH AN AWESOME adventure book!!

haha. True. Maybe you could get both the classic and the girl set and interchange books to mix them up some?
