HELP- children both place in middle of singapore guide

I printed off the Singapore math placement tests and i can tell by looking at them that ds8 (starting Bigger as soon as I place order) could place in 2B, and ds11 (starting PHFHG w/ext) could place in 3B.

What options do I have for placing them in the middle of a singapore level? Or is it best to start them on the low end of the level, say placing ds8 in 2A and ds11 in 3A?

Also, ds11 is running a bit behind, but not too bad... am noticing that the problems he would miss on the placement exam are just hole issues in switching math curriculums. Can we run his math at a faster speed to try to bring him up as he shows apptitude or would it be too much?

We are switching from using Math Mammoth. I have grown to trust Carrie's recommendations so very much, and want to put all three kiddos in Singapore this year. Our dd6 will be starting LHFHG at the same time, at least with her I can start out from the very beginning!

Thank you!!

That is no problem. Just have the one child do 2B, 3A and the other 3B, 4A. Lot of people do that. My own daughter will do 1B, 2A for second grade. For 2B, there are activities in the Bigger guide. Just use a sticky to keep your place. The schedule for 3A and 3B are in the appendix. You do need the textbooks for 3A and 3B.

I just wanted to agree that it's fine to start in the "B" part of a year instead of the "A". Just start where they place and go from there.

As far as covering the material faster for your older son, that is possible. If you feel that some parts of it are review or just a different way that Singapore covers it and if your ds understands it well, then I think it is fine to go ahead and move through those areas more quickly. I would just caution that you don't want to overwhelm him or have him feel that Singapore is too difficult or too much work. I would try to keep the lessons to less than 30 minutes each day and not overburden him with too much work. I would also be careful to make sure that he does understand it well so he'll be prepared for the next section. It seems every math program has a different scope and sequence so when switching, you will probably run into things that have been covered before. That makes it a great time for review, but it also means you might be able to move through that material more quickly. I would just play it by ear, see how it goes, and take it from there. He isn't really that far behind. Singapore is somewhat more advanced than other programs so don't feel like you need to push to catch him up. I hope you all will enjoy Singapore math. We like it here and my dc are thriving with it. :D
