I can't wait to get into this material with my kids!
I've been reading the board here just since learning about HOD this last week, right before going to our annual hs bookfair here in TX this weekend. I was seriously trying to decide between MFW and WP, then here comes HOD at the last minute. When I first looked at the website, I somehow thought it was just a preschool - early elem. curric, which would be okay, but not exactly something I could "settle" on for the long run.
But walking into our bookfair, I mapped out where MFW was and where HOD was, and their booths were so close to each other, just so convenient for me. All day I basically went back and forth between these 2 booths trying to compare both in all areas. I had been looking seriously at MFW for the last 3 years, and this was the year that I planned on starting Adv.
But, with Carrie and Julie patiently helping me to understand the ins and outs of HOD, I was sold! It didn't matter that I would be using other things for some of the "Basics", because that is sooooo easy to work around with HOD. What really mattered was the total Bible/character integration and flow of the History and Science, as well as the "CM" philosophy throughout. But the final point that really sold me was the "Emergent Reading Schedule" and comprehension questions, along with the integration of DITHOR afterwards.
What a relief to finally have a schedule using real books to slowly move my kids from early readers to independent readers with comprehension questions and all flowing within such a great history curric! I just love all the books the Carrie has chosen!
My kids will be in K, 2nd and 3rd. I could have gone with the "Bigger" program, but I just didn't want my kids to miss out on the "Beyond" program, because it seems like such a good foundational place to start for my kids, and we can all be on the same page easily. I did buy some of the "Little Hearts" books that I just want to read to my kids on the side.
I'm excited to FINALLY find something that looks doable for all the subjects and really tries to nourish the heart towards God!
Thanks to all you who have mentioned HOD elsewhere, because I found out about it on another board or list. Or I may still not have known about it, and very likely wouldn't have visited their booth yesterday.
Thank you,
Teresa
