Questions about beginning RTR

I've asked a similar question about a younger guide, but not sure how this works with the older guides. I am so eager purchase and start RTR with dd11 and not happy with what we're currently using for history/science, that I just have to ask. Would it be a bad idea to begin RTR in the next couple weeks even though we'll be taking the summer off at the first of June? Of course this means she would only be using it for about 2 and a half months before summer break, then begin it again in the fall. I probably just start out kind of slow anyway to get used to the change, so I'm thinking it wouldn't be a big deal, but I just want to be sure. Or should I just be patient and wait until Fall to begin? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

There's nothing in the program that wouldn't allow you to start whenever you wish! However, it takes some time to get used to the way things are done if you're coming from something else. You may very well just get a routine down, then you'll be stopping only to "start over" again in the fall. Sometimes it takes a month or so get really get the time and schedule down. But seasonal wise, there's no issues.

There would be no problems whatsoever with starting now, or soon, if that's what you want to do. You have to do what's right for your daughter and her situation. I'll share what we're doing with my son. He is finishing CTC very soon and we'll be jumping right into RTR in a few weeks. He'll only get to about unit 9 before summer break. With HOD there is no problem with taking a break in the middle of the guide, and then picking back up in the fall where you left off. Many families are on schedules like this and seem to have no problems with starting up again.
One thing I will recommend that the previous poster mentioned, is that if you are coming from something that may be different, it will most likely take some adjustment time to get the hang of the way HOD works. Don't be discouraged!
It does take time to adjust to something new, but the key is just being dilegent and taking your time. I'd suggest just going half speed through the guide for the remainder of this year, or until your daughter gets the feel for it and wants to do more each day. This would really give her (and you!) a chance to really work on developing certain skills for each box in the plans. It also helps to cement how things work, so then the guide can be done a little more independently from there on. However, you can be as involved as you like with HOD!
I hope this has been somewhat helpful! Blessings as you begin your journey with RTR!

I agree with what the others have said. The only other problem I would see is that you might stop in the middle of a storytime book so that might be frustrating to stop and then to try and pick it back up again. The books that are part of reading for history would be a little easier to stop midway and pick back up.
