I would love some input on doing Bigger Half Speed once we finish Beyond. My daughter will be a 7 in August and is very ready for this guide, but I plan to at least start half speed to help her ease into the greater work load. How does that look for your family? At what point, if at all, do you decide to move to full speed? Do you keep the math and grammar half speed as well, or stay regular pace? Thanks for the ideas ladies!

We are currently doing Bigger 1/2 speed and below is how I divide it up. I do math, reading, spelling, and copywork everyday. By doing the copywork everyday even though we are going 1/2 speed I divide it up into smaller sections. I still find I need to add something though so ds usually copies the hymn as well. I do plan to go full speed eventually so ds will be ready for preparing. My plan is to stretch Bigger out by going 1/2 speed until we are about 2/3 through, then go to full speed and that will get us to Preparing a little past his 8th birthday and hopefully just do all of the guides at full speed from that point on.
Day 1 - Day 2
Reading - Reading
History - History box
Bible - Memory verse review
Hymn - Hymn
Math - Math
Poetry - English
Science - Storytime
Spelling - Spelling
copywork - copywork

There are any number of ways one could split it up. I like to do the activity box on the off day for history because it ties in in some way and brings us back to the history reading so provides kind of a quick review on the off day for history. I like to put Bible with history because of the link Carrie makes. We also don't end up singing the hymn everyday even though I had scheduled it because the hymn is used for several units so going 1/2 speed it becomes a little redundant after awhile. I just previewed this and have no idea why it spaced my schedule the way it did, but I think you can read it. :?

countrymom - I will be starting Bigger half-speed with dd in the fall. After I saw what your half-speed looks like, I was curious about what mine would look like. Mine came out almost exactly like yours. :) I think it is because I like your idea of splitting history and the history activity box. So, the other things fell into place basically the same way. Thanks for sharing this. It made it easy for me. :D

Thanks for the input! I was hoping to get a new idea besides left page 1 day, right page the next day. I also wasn't really excited about only doing math every other day because that is my daughter's most difficult subject. I want to make sure she is solid there. I like your ideas.

We're doing Bigger half speed, too, and it's going great! We've been at it for a few weeks now, and we're starting to get into a groove. We do math, cursive, and copywork every day. After that, I alternate each day between spelling and English. Then it's pretty much right side/left side, but I'm keeping it flexible after we've focused on our skills. My kiddo balks at doing too much writing, so the amount of writing required is something I consider when I'm choosing which of the other boxes we'll do on a given day. I'm sure you'll find a way that works for you!

We are doing Beyond at half speed now and plan on doing Bigger that way just to let my son mature more. I struggled so much with how to do it half speed then finally it came to me I just had to do 17 units this year and 17 the next. That sure took a burden off of me.
We do math and any other workbooks we have every day, like our ETC. I switch off with our handwriting book since it is shorter and I switch off between it and copy work.
