Hi everyone! I have a question. We are doing Bigger this year with my daughter, who is 8, for 2nd grade. We are using the Rod and Staff English level 2 this year. I was going to order level 3 next year in Preparing for 3rd grade. I just noticed that level 2 is intended for grades 2/3 and then level 3 is grade 4 and so forth.

I also noticed that HOD just uses through level 7.

So, my question is do we need to do level 2 again next year for 3rd grade and then do level 3 for 4th grade and so on? We would like to continue using this thru the 8th grade. So, that would make us doing level 7 for 8th grade, right? We don't mind repeating level 2 again. I would much rather do that than try level 3 and it be way too difficult for her next year. I will add that she is doing really well in level 2. She is in the middle of the HOD age range for Bigger. What are the rest of you doing for this?

Thanks so much for any advice that you can give. Have a blessed day!

Ok, after looking at this again, I may have figured it out. :?

From what I understand, I will use:
level 3 for Preparing (4 days a week) for 3rd grade,
level 4 for CTC/RTR (2 days a week) for 4th and 5th grade,
level 5 for Rev to Rev/MTMM (2 days a week) for 6th and 7th grade,
and then level 6 for the next guide for 8th grade.

So, each level starting at 4 is stretched out over 2 years doing it 2 days a week and then the other 2 days doing a writing program.

Is this right? I hope that I'm not confusing anyone else. Thanks!

Due to R & S English being advanced, HOD has an overall goal for students to complete Level 6 by the end of Grade 8. In high school, HOD students will ideally complete Level 7 and 8, spread out half-speed over 4 years. I want to stress 'ideally' here, as there are many, many, many different paths dc may take through R & S English, and still find success. :D Some may finish 8 early, and some may never get to 8. Grammar (sadly) is not even required in most high schools, so any extra grammar will be a bonus. That being said, as your dd is doing well with R & S English 2 (HOORAY! :D ), I'd just do English 3 next year as it is scheduled in PHFHG. The following year in CTC, you can just do half-speed English 4 as it is scheduled, and in RTR the other half of English 4 as it is scheduled. In RevtoRev you can do English 5 either full-speed, or half-speed if at that point you would like to slow her down. My almost 9 yo is doing English 3 now with PHFHG, and it is going well. My 12 yo is doing R & S English 5 now with RevtoRev, and that is going well too. Typically, if dc are doing well with the level the are in, they will do well with the next one. HTH! :D

In Christ,
Julie
