Mission to Modern Marvels ? please...

Hi Carrie,
I have a 16 year old daughter who needs both Modern History, and Government. I was hoping to have her and my 14 year old both completing Mission to Modern Marvels together.
Do you have any suggestions for how I would incorporate Government for my 16 year old? What resources do you recommend and how often would I use them? She does have some dyslexia, and I do not want to overwhelm her, but she does need to complete both. Thanks so much for any help and advice you can give.
Blessings,
Tracy

Tracy,
I do think that you could use much of MTMM for both of your daughters, especially if your 16 year old is in need of Modern History and Government.
The MTMM history portion would be fine for your daughters. Your 14 year old wouldn't use extensions, unless she is a freshman. You could weigh whether your 16 year old could handle the extensions or not. Otherwise, you'd need the Basic Package for both to do.
As far as government goes, there is more a foundation in Economics in this guide, with more of a government focus in Rev2Rev. So, depending on what your older daughter needs for history, you could also consider Rev2Rev as an option with MTMM the following year. As you ponder your plans, our guide to follow MTMM will be our one-year geography guide. So, you could weigh whether your older daughter needs that before graduation also.
For government, I'll link you to a past post where I discuss possibilities for beefing up Rev2Rev to gain a government credit. Link:

If you do not want to go that route, then another possibility would be to do Zeezok Publishing's A Noble Experiment. We are using it with our son this year, doing it 2-3 days a week in short sessions all year for the .5 credit in government. It is not flashy, but it is well-laid out and has solid instruction. Our oldest son is learning about government from a Christian perspective. We do like it, and so does he.
Anyway, this is just one more possibility.

Carrie

Carrie,
Thank you so very much for your helpful reply. At your recommendation, I am looking at Rev2Rev as a possibility. I will also take a closer look at A Noble Experiment. I like that it is on DVD. Could you please tell me a bit more about the economics resources that will be used in MTMM. Thanks again!
Blessings,
Tracy

Carrie,
Will MODERN time extensions include enough economics to count for high school economics? My oldest won't get to finish your last high school guide. I was wondering how/when to add her semester of economics. Is your extensions going to help with this? She will be a freshman next year.
Blessings,
April

April,
Great question. We are going to be including the book
Whatever Happened to Penny Candy? and
Common Sense Business for Kids in MTMM. Students will read one chapter each week from these economics-related resources and write a one-sentence or one line economic principle that they gained from the reading in their Student Notebook each week. These books do a great job of getting kiddos to begin thinking about economics, and this type of thinking pairs so well with the study of history from 1880 (or so) forward to present day.
While this is only the beginning of an economics study, it would be a good time to add more to the study for high school credit in economics. This could be done by adding the Bluestocking guide to Economics and the books that go with it. Hazelett's Economics in One Lesson is another good, short book to consider. Another excellent economics course to consider adding would be R.C. Sproul Jr's Biblical Economics. One last economics option would be materials from Financial Peace University. So, there are several ways you could go about adding enough for .5 of an economics credit with MTMM (as the base will already be scheduled in the guide as a springboard).
Blessings,
Carrie
