Re: What grade level is Beyond considered?
I think it's awesome as a second grade curriculum, but works well as first grade too And can be tweaked easily for a third grader
Re: What grade level is Beyond considered?
I know there are many 1st and 2nd graders using it. Also, some 3rd grade. What's nice about HOD is that you can extend the guides for more advanced children. Also, there are different grade options for the basics in the younger guides. So, what matters is how your child fits and what you may need to do to adjust it to how he/she places in certain subject areas.

Re: What grade level is Beyond considered?
I am using it for 2nd grade. My dd could have probably handled it in first grade, but I didn't want her in the upper guides too early, so I think Beyond is great for 2nd grade.
I've done all the guides now with at least one child and still feeling the HOD LOVE. LOL!

I'm using it with a 6yo Kindergartener and a 7yo 2nd grader and will continue using it until around Christmas time this year for the same two kiddos who will then be 1st/3rd graders. I think it was actually written as a 1st/2nd grade program.

I plan to use it this fall with my 2nd daughter who will turn 8 in November. I will consider her "2nd" grade. I think it is going to be perfect for her!

Re: What grade level is Beyond considered?
I am a bit torn on defining a grade level to Beyond since I am obviously using it with my 3rd grader. I think the history texts used can definitely be considered higher than 1st or 2nd as they are 3rd and 4th grade texts for Christian Liberty Press. I would consider the science 2nd grade level. I would think a 3rd grader would need more grammar.
So I guess I would say since HOD can be used in so many ways and add so many things or use different levels of math and language arts that the grade level is dependent on your choices with it.
I would say it is a good 2nd grade curriculum which can be good for 1st graders that have already done LHFHG or it can be beefed up a bit with some of BHFHG options (English, Cheerful Cursive, Singapore 3a/3b) for use with 3rd graders that aren't ready for the writing in Bigger....just my thoughts...

Re: What grade level is Beyond considered?
We used it for 1st and 3rd last year. It was a better fit for my 3rd grader...although she did the 3Rs portion of Bigger. My DS didn't get as much from the readings as DD did, but he enjoyed the activities and had no trouble with the 3Rs portion.

Re: What grade level is Beyond considered?
We did Beyond in 2nd grade with ds8. He is a VERY YOUNG 2nd grader (late Sept Birthday and would have been a grade younger had he been in ps) and it was a great year! He moved on to Bigger this year and has done and exceptional job!
HOD is not "grade" specific, though...it is based on an age range.

It's very true that "Beyond" is adaptable.Tidbits of Learning wrote:I am a bit torn on defining a grade level to Beyond since I am obviously using it with my 3rd grader. I first used it with my oldest two when they were in 3rd and 1st grade and it was fine. I wish I had waited and not used it until a year later with the first grader...

Re: What grade level is Beyond considered?
Thanks for posting this question, and thanks to those that replied! I am looking at using Beyond for my dc and was wondering about his myself!
Re: What grade level is Beyond considered?
I have given this question a lot of thought over the years. My answer is different now than it would have been even a year ago. I prefer Beyond for 2nd grade, so that my children will not progress to quickly into the upper guides. So far, I have used it for my older 2 sons in their 2nd grade year. I can see how both of them would have handled it fine as 1st graders, though. I will be taking my 3rd son through it also when he's in 2nd grade ... but he'll be an almost 8 year old 2nd grader, so I may need to beef it up a little bit for him. I plan on taking my daughter through it, though, as a young first grader. (so that I can combine my younger 2 children) I am really not sure how that is going to go.
I love how HOD is adaptable and is truly written for an age range and not necessarily a grade.
