With the student workbooks, can I re use them ,or should I buy a new one for each child.Up till now I have been copying pages, but then I felt guilty after an article called 'homeschooling legally'. sorry Carrie
Are project packs less demanding than DITHOR?

I just got mine and would like to know, too. I was wondering b/c, what if my son reads more than 1 book in a certain genre? I read the disclaimer in the front and I thought it meant I could JUST copy them for my son, and not reproduce them for anyone else. If this is wrong, please correct me so I will know!!!! :)

I was under the impression that photocopying for you own family was okay. But now that I'm looking in the front of one of my student workbooks, I'm not sure if that's right.

Personally, I find it easier to just buy a workbook for each child. That way I have a good record of which genres they've done without trying to keep track of lots of loose papers.

So, I guess I'm curious about this too! :D

I too was under the impression that you are allowed to make copies for your own family.

Well, I only wanted to make copies b/c I wasn't sure if we'd do more than 1 book in a genre or not....I'm still new to this, but I understood it to mean that I could make copies for my son, whom I bought it for.

Yes, you are allowed to photocopy them for your own family. That would not include selling the original when you are done, that would be a violation.

It is always good to ask - so thanks for this question! :D We used to copy ours, and I do remember that being noted in the workbook back then, but now we just write in them, and I am not sure. I will let Mike and Carrie know about this, though I'm sure she'll read it and respond in time anyway as she always does when she has time. Sorry I can't be more decisive! :? I don't want to guess and be wrong.

In Christ,
Julie

Great question! Sorry for the delay in answering. I haven't been back on the board for a bit. :D In the past, we have allowed and encouraged copying the student books within the family unit. We wanted to do everything possible to help families use DITHR. :D However, in the last year we have been finally changing our copyright policy on the Student Books with each new reprinting (after over a decade of allowing them to photocopied for family use).

It is not without thought that we are changing our policy, however we continue to run into really blatant misuse of the policy. We hear from people fairly regularly who have purchased an entirely photocopied Student Book of ours (on a used board or ebay), and then call or email us wanting us to supply pages missing from their copy. We have had people copy the Student Books in co-op settings for entire classes without permission. We've had people in the checkout line at convention tell their friend not to buy the Student Book because they will just copy their Student Book and give it to them instead. At used Book Sales at the conventions we attend, someone usually points out to us that they bought the Student Books for DITHR in a binder at the used book sale, all copied for them, so they only need to purchase the Teacher's Guide. So, at this point in time, we have been removing the permission to copy for family use from the copyright so that the copyright is more in alignment with what other companies do for workbooks such as ours.

You are so gracious to ask, and we have learned the hard way that it is wise to limit the copyright. :D We pray you will enjoy your time spent with DITHR as much as we have. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Thanks for clarifying for us, Carrie! I'll be happy to buy a new workbook for DITHOR each time we need one. :D

Thank you for the reply. I hadn't planned on copying anyway, but am really sorry to see the lack of consideration in the stories you share. :(

Carrie thank you for your kind reply. :)
Without photocopying, Its will be much easier to keep all one child's work together ,I will make sure I order extra copies next time we order curriculum.I feel that HOD is a bargain,I love the fact that Stanley' s curriculum pretty much is covered by our previous purchases of HOD for Nathan.
