DD 5 is doing LHFHG (kindy) full speed now but she has blazed through her A Reason for Handwriting K book and it is now completed. I've got the Level A coming in hopefully in the next day or so. Unless she blazes through that one also

, it won't be completed by the time she finishes LHFHG.
Next, she'll be going into Beyond. Would you have her finish the A level book and then start copywork or just start copywork at the beginning of Beyond? If it matters, she will more than likely be doing Beyond 1/2 speed at least to begin with.

I had thought about having my DD do handwriting along with copywork starting in Beyond because her handwriting... honestly needs some work. The copywork though is a lot of work, and I thought it might be better to just sit with her and make sure that she was doing the copywork with nice form, forming letters properly, things like that. So that's what I did. But I think with 1/2 speed you could do a workbook also. Or do it during your summer break if you're planning to take one maybe? I should get my DD some handwriting books to do during our "post baby" break.

We started this year with ARFH A and got a little over halfway through it before starting Beyond in January. The copywork in Beyond has really stretched my dd, so we dropped the ARFH A. I think if you used ARFH A for the rest of this year, that would give you a good review of letter formation before you start Beyond. The first half of ARFH A is a practice/review section and you do it before you start the real lessons (where you practice words to be able to write out a piece of scripture). I will warn you that we found the practice section to have entirely too much writing in it and we really cut it down. My dd was balking at how much was expected. I would just do enough to practice the formation of each letter and move on. Rows and rows are really not needed and the quality starts to suffer.

HTH,

That sounds like a good plan of action. I totally agree with you on the amount of writing in book A. When my ds did it last year he really pitched a fit about the work required. So we, like you, only did what was necessary to help him practice his letters and then we moved on.

I'm taking the same approach with his copywork this year. I try not to overwhelm him with too much but hopefully do enough to give him the practice he needs. Yes, quality over quantity!
