I am having trouble with my 7 year old dd. She seems to not getting any concepts. In K we used math u see primer, and last year we did some workbooks I had and now I am trying Rod & Staff. We are in the first unit and its really ok but it will get harder and I am not sure how she will do. I should also state that she has a processing disorder so things take her a bit longer to get

My 8yo has some processing problems, too. We are using Primary Math recommended in HOD. She is only in 1B. It's a slow, but steady pace. I have the extra practice book and I use counters, although she can do some simple addition in her head now. All I can say is to take it slow and keep reviewing. There were days when I would think 'Is she ever going to get this?' Then one day it seems like a light bulb went on and she was 'getting it'. She may forget some of it when you come back to it, but with consistent review, at some point it should stick. I probably wasn't much help, but know that you are not alone. I am not familiar with R&S math, but have you looked into Primary Math? Maybe you could use a different method.

I did the placement test for singapore math and she had trouble with the 1a so im guessing if i decided to go that route thats where i should start her.

I just wanted to add that my ds has processing problems as well, and we've been using Singapore and it's going well. There were some things that took him awhile to understand, but we just kept working on it.

If you do decide to make the switch to 1A, be sure to just follow the pace in the Beyond guide (doing the hands-on activities that go with the lessons). Also, I wouldn't try to rush her to "catch-up" as in Singapore they begin 1A at age 7. So, you should be right on track simply following the daily plans. The lessons should be short and sweet. Make sure to feel free to use manipulatives for every day.

I plan on ordering the 1a and 1b for my dd when you say manipulatives does that mean the ones from the singapore website?

Sorry to be confusing! We use basic household items for manipulatives in the Beyond guide, so those were the "manipulatives" to which I was referring. I just wanted to encourage you to allow your child to use the household manipulatives whenever needed to "see" what she is learning even on the days when no hands-on lesson is scheduled.

You should be able to just follow the plans in the Beyond guide for 1A/1B.
