Can I use Little Hearts...

Year 1 for K and Year 2 for 1st with the same child? Does that make sense?

How would I go through the guide? Just totally repeat it twice? Stretch it out?

Hi!
I know some people have repeated LHFHG over for 1st. I have not done this, though. I'll let others weigh in on that option.

We have a 5 yr old (July b-day). For us, this is her K year and next year will be 1st (school district thinks next year is K for her). She is ready now, but we are looking at her age when she goes off to college. We'd rather have her be a year older.

We are starting her in LHFHG next week. We've been doing math and Reading Made Easy since Aug and expect to finish those by May - early Summer. Then we will start Emerging Readers and 1st grade math. The rest of Little Hearts, I expect to spread out the rest of this year and finish by May 2013 (1 1/2 years total). We are doing 4 days of plans/week with her and her brother who is in Bigger. The extra day is for catch-up or field trips/fun stuff if they are finished for the week. If we finish LHFHG prior to May 2013, we'll just start Beyond. If she gets stuck or life happens, we have wiggle room. This allows us to go at her pace.

Hopefully this helps some.
Laurie

I am doing Beyond at half speed this year and I toiled over and over of how to do it and it finally just hit me one day get through 17 units this year and 17 next. On the off days we still do math, reading, spelling (I use something different), handwriting and probably something else I can't remember.
So just find what works for you. This is what gave me a peace and I stopped trying to figure it out.

Thank you for the replies!!!

Kim, that sounds like a GREAT plan! Thank you so much for sharing. I think that is what I will plan to do, at least with my youngest daughter. We'll see what works for the 2nd.

Kim, I really like your idea too; it gives me permission to go at our pace, and not try to get bogged down in keeping "up" with an arbitrary pace. DD is ready for Beyond for the basics, but only for LHFHG for the history/science/Bible. I don't want to rush her at all; I'd also rather her enroll as a college freshman at 18 rather than at 17.

This is one of my things too. If I don't slow my two middle daughters down, they wouldn't turn 18 until the fall of their first year of college, should they go then.
