Need advice on science

I am planning to use Preparing with my ds (currently gr. 3) next year (used Beyond a few years ago but this year going more eclectic since we're Canadian). Any ideas what science I can be doing now in order to not overlap too much with the future guides? I also have a dd who is younger (gr.1), and I would prefer to keep them together for science at this point. Next year she will probably do much of the Beyond science program. But for now we just need some ideas of books or programs we could use for the next half of the year. Right now I'm using nice "living" books from the library on a variety of topics that interest us, but not many experiments so far. Feel like I need more but not wanting to spend too much at this point.
Thanks,
Rachel

I have had to do something similar for different reasons so this is what I did. My ds needed to get ready to do the work of CTC in other areas but his science (favorite subject) is not behind so I just continued with the format that he did in Preparing. Day 1 Notebook page (Bible verse, picture from book, some quote from book about picture etc) Day 2 Oral Narration Day 3 5 Questions from reading one of the questions from Bible pertaining to subject Day 4 Experiment. The books I am using are the Apologia that is not covered in any guides; Scientist books not covered in any guide; and One Small Square books not covered in any guides. Tammy

I like chillin'inandove's ideas! That will prepare them nicely for PHFHG's science. We are doing PHFHG now and loving the science. You can see some of our experiments on HOD's Weekly Check-in, just to get excited for what's to come!
