If there was a subject that I was ever tempted to pay some one to teach my children it would have been writing   ! I am trying, and I am not terrible at it, just have a super hard time teaching it to my kiddos. :D It really stretches me :D ... that being said, I was wandering if anyone would be willing to share their childs paragraph from the wring assignment on unit 8 day 2? Pretty please!!! I really need an idea if we did it correctly and if what they wrote is acceptable? Thank you all so much! :D :D

Well, you certainly summed up how many of us feel about one subject or another. However, that is how our dc feel too, so I guess we are in good company. How about I just say it's acceptable? That's what Charlotte Mason would say. :D However, in light of trying to be a little more helpful, I will share what Riley recently wrote - I am thinking you are talking about the desert description? I hope this is right. He wrote...

This is just one child's response to the writing assignment - and by all means - not the "right" one. I try to use the guidelines in the HOD guide and partner with Riley to help him come to a good response. I really view PHFHG as a partnering type of approach to these writing assignments- as dc at this age just really do need help to progress. I'm not sure if this helps, but if not, keep asking questions! :D

Julie, Thank YOU so much! This is exactly what I was talking about! I felt a little better after they actually did the assignment, but I wasn't really sure what to expect from them... so this helps so much :D . We are looooving the way Carrie slowly leads us into each writing lesson in Preparing and the boys are doing a great job and growing tremendously! I could not be more pleased with how they are flourishing in every area this year:D :D . I think I tensed up because this was the first one where we were to start with out any prompt or starters (which is a good thing)? I am glad you mentioned "partnering" with them, because I was'nt really sure how much to help... so I feel better about giving them a little more help next time, rather than just "okay write your paragraph".

I should add that at frist they were not excited about this portion of the guide, but were great little troopers about it. NOW they are both doing very well with it and the older one will come to me with his new poems that he has written all on his own just for fun!! :D :D I kidded him just this morning how one day, children would be sitting around reading his poetry and say "Did you know that when Kolton ---- ----- (instead of Robert Louis Stevenson) was boy he loved to study birds and watch them in the outdoors?" Ha.. who knows, it could be! Thanks to HOD!! Julie you are such a blessing, thank all of you at HOD very much! :D :D
