RTR & Storytime/DITHOR

I am getting ready to purchase RTR, and am trying to decide what to get.

I have never been able to squeeze DITHOR into our days. I have DITHOR and the books from the BHFHG level 3, and they never got used. I am planning to do DITHOR now that we have more time in our day and it seems like for the first time it will work, but I am worried about buying extra books that will not get used again. I have a 3rd/4th grader in Bigger, and my 7th will be starting RTR (and there's also a 1st gr. in LHFHG).

Would it work using the RTR storytime books in the DITHOR program? I didn't know if this would work or if it was an unwise thing to do?

Since the oldest is in 7th, but has never done DITHOR, which student book would I get for her between the 4/5 and 6/7/8? And for the reader levels, which set goes better with RTR between the 4/5 and 5/6, or should I go by which books she'd be more interested in for that decision. The 5/6 set is cheaper, so that is what I am inclined to get (unless I do some combo of the two levels due to book interest).

Thanks for your help/suggestions.

Tabitha,

I'm so glad that you will get a chance to use DITHR this year. I think it will be especially important for your 7th grader this year to help prepare her for the literature study coming in high school. I wouldn't try to use the Storytime books from RTR for DITHR, as they are all history-interest based and won't fall into very many genres.

I guess I'd be more likely to lean toward the 5/6 Girl Interest Books or the 6/7 Books for your daughter for DITHR, depending on how well she reads. I'd also let interest really help with that decision, so let her have a look and give you her opinion. :D

Typically, we would have a 7th grader do DITHR 6/7/8 (as long as she's quite independent, is a good reader, doesn't mind written work, and has had some previous instruction in literary terms like character, plot, setting, mood, theme, compare/contrast, etc.). If this doesn't describe your daughter, then I'd instead use the 4/5 Student Book (but you can still use any book pack desired with the 4/5 Student Book). :D

If you have other questions, ask away!

Blessings,
Carrie

Thank you, Carrie, for your help.

We are getting ready to order everything this morning, once she picks out the DITHOR package she'd prefer. :D
