BHFHG Poetry -- Love it

We're in Unit 25, and this week's poem is The Railroad Cars are Coming. The assignment today was to to try to sing the words of the poem to several different tunes. On Day 1 when we read the poem, it just worked out that we set it to the tune of Oh Suzannah. So today's assignment was really fun for our family and it was hard to stop once we got started. Here's a few that worked out quite well:

Yankee Doodle
America the Beautiful
Amazing Grace
The Battle Hymn of the Republic
Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee (9th Symphony)
All People that on Earth do Dwell
Away in the Manger
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
We are One in the Spirit
God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
Frosty the Snowman
We Gather Together
Happy Birthday
The First Noel
The Awana Theme Song
and two from my childhood that the kids didn't recognize...the theme songs to Gilligan's Island and Scoobie Doo

I couldn't believe the concentration the kids put into this assignment, trying to see what songs would work and what wouldn't. HOD makes learning fun, -- even POETRY.

Thanks Carrie!

This is so fun! I like your list of tunes to use and am going to remember to look this back up when I get to do BHFHG with my littlest guy in a few years. Great fun! :D Thanks for sharing!

How fun! I am glad you had such a good time with this assignment. :D My boys, so far, are all growing up to be poetry lovers (which I have to attribute to HOD and CM). What a difference that is from my own, devoid of poetry, education.

I have learned to love and understand poetry more too! Thanks for sharing! :D

Blessings,
Carrie
