Testimony to how good the storytime books are

My dd is a highschooler and she does her own subjects while ds and I do RTR. We purposefully go into another room to do storytime so we don't disturb her. This week we split day 4 into 2 days because of some appointments he has in the afternoon. This means we did storytime yesterday and not today. We are currently reading "Ink on His Fingers". My dd hears us talking about that and she says, "but I wanted to find out what happened to Hans". I asked her how she knew about Hans and she sheepishly admitted that she has been listening while she does her French and talks about what a good story it was. Then she starts talking about the last story we read! I found it so funny that she has been listening in on the sly that I didn't even get on her for not paying full attention to her French. If my sometimes cynical 16 year old thinks the stories are good, then they must be really good.

That's cool!!
My "reluctant" high schooler is doing RTR with extensions and "beef ups" for high school, and when I told her that the current storytime book would be continued after Christmas break, she was like "awwwww...."! That surprised me, because she usually complains about any kind of school stuff, including having to read extra books.

I told her she could read it on her own over break if she really didn't want to wait until January to see how it ends. (We're on "The King's Fifth".)

Oh, ladies!

This does my heart good. That is the way "school" should be! Filled with living books that light a fire in a child no matter what his/her age. I am thoroughly enjoying reading potential books for our newest guide MTMM.

It is a true hunt to find the good ones, as so many have inappropriate content. But when you find a winner, it is such a great feeling!

Thanks for sharing!
Blessings,
Carrie

This is so true!

I purposely put Wyatt's independent work time for RevtoRev at the dining room table near the living room couch during the time I read Storytime for PHFHG to Riley. He listens in knowing he needs to keep on working as he does. He often says things like "Oh, this was my favorite part", or, "Can I have it to read when you're done? I loved that book!" Wyatt did PHFHG 3 years back and still loves the books. Carrie has a talent for book selection, and it gets mighty difficult as dc get older. I am so thankful for her searching out the best of the best!
In Christ,
Julie
