How do you do the storytime in your guides?

We are using Bigger and LHFHG this year, and this is our first year with HOD. I chose the boy interest pack for bigger, and of course the Reddy Fox and friends set for Little. My question is, do you read during your actual school time, or do you do it before bed. I am trying to find a good fit for us, I enjoy reading to the boys, and want our storytimes to be fun, but I feel like they become last on the list. So any suggestions?

We usually gather in the family room after lunch and read. Either that or after nap time. I try to make Storytime a less "schoolish" time of day. We just LOVE Storytime here! (Well, we love
all of Heart of Dakota, but Storytime is especially fun!

I am only doing one program so we do ours during the school time. It usually ends up pretty soon after lunch and that seem to work to get my ds back on track after the lunch break. He also loves storytime even at age 12.

I have one in Preparing (we read this together) and one in Beyond. We have mixed this into the day as I juggle between them and their preschool sister. They like it and we usually sneak to the bedroom to read and cuddle while we do it. It is a special time.
I don't plan to move it to before bed because life happens and we would miss it too much I am afraid. Plus, oldest reads before bed.
I think finding what works for you is great. Try several different approaches and see what works best!

Well I'm only doing LHFHG right now, but we do Bible and Storytime during breakfast. The kids listen while they eat.

We do it during school time but Storytime is something I find could work almost any time of the day (I have not tried evening, like another poster I am afraid if evening was the scheduled time for it it would get skipped because our evenings are kind of crazy sometimes). I have done it during breakfast or lunch time also... it can be difficult to get my own food eaten, but the kids do seem to enjoy that. It's fun and easy for all of us, some of the discussions or activities are a little more work, but of course just reading the books is something we all enjoy. If I have to leave something for the afternoon during little sister's nap that's what I will leave because again its so easy to get it done.

I have done it at different times, breakfast, lunch and bedtime. I think what will work best for us is breakfast. I am going to try that tomorrow morning. I plan to start with Bible, then listen / sing our hymn, then read the Storytime to start the day. We shall see how it goes! I wasn't always getting it in when I left it for bedtime, and lunch is always rushed as it seems we have places to be in the afternoon. So, try different times and see what works for you! It's trial and error around here!

We are doing Beyond with my 7yo son and LHFHG with my 5yo daughter. I save Story Time to do at the very end of school for each of them. I like getting everything done in one sitting.

We do the entire right side(except for storytime and science for Bigger) and the Bible and song boxes before lunch. After lunch we do storytime followed by the rest of the left side.

My hubby does the PHFHG storytime reading with our dd before bed. She loves that time with her Daddy! And it is nice for him to get to be a part of our school day too. I even have offered to read to her on a night when he works late or something. She has flatly refused and said she would just wait for Daddy.
We tried to fit it in during the day but it just always made the school time go too long. It leaves me more time open to work with my little guys who are getting big too fast.

We do our storytime during our normal school time. My boys love storytime, it's their favorite part of school!

Using Beyond, we do storytime when we have finished all our other school for the day. The two younger ones, 7 and 5 love to play with their legos in the floor while I read, and the oldest, 10, likes to sit near me and look over my shoulder for pictures. We LOVE storytime, and the kids will often hurry through some things to get to their latest read aloud.
We usually finish in the mid afternoon, and like to do it then. It doesn't take too long and is a nice transition into the rest of the day. I agree with the other ladies that in our home anything scheduled for evening doesn't get done regularly!!

I do any reading I have to do to him first thing. I like to be free as soon as possible for other stuff and other children that may need me.

I have a question with regard to storytime and multiple levels of HOD. Do you do all the read alouds together or do you do them individually?
