Sub for "Ben and Me" for Bigger extensions?

Post by countrymom » Fri Nov 18, 2011 3:13 pm

We are using the extension package (minus science and A child's History of America) and I just noticed that "Ben and Me" is used for units 9-11 and we just started using it for the storytime (classic package). Any ideas on what I could substitute with?

Hmm...we did Benjamin West and His Cat Grimalkin for storytime instead, so as to save Ben and Me for later--I just happened to notice that early on. If you wanted to keep to the history read aloud, then perhaps Benjamin Franklin by D'Aulaire and/or the Jean Fritz book about Ben Franklin. I am sure there are other good choices--these are two I own and would probably read both over the time period as they are shorter in length. Jen

If you just started it for Storytime, I'd stop it and use one of the other Biography titles suggested, which are "George Rogers Clark" or "Phillis Wheatley". We've read both of these over the years, and the boys loved them both. :D
