should we strart with LHTH or LHFHG?
should we strart with LHTH or LHFHG?
Hi!
I am considering to HS my son with HOD materials. I researched a lot and this Cur. seems to be a good match for us!
But I have a question about what to start with.
My son have been HS for about a year now. He is very advanced in some areas but a little behind in others.
For example: he is advanced reader, reads books, knows all numbers, colors and so on.
BUT... he is somewhat behind his peers in the area of Speech : receptive is difficult, we still working on answering questions. So speech and undestanding of speech is behind compared to his peers.
So I guess Bible lessons will be just perfect to learn with LHTH, but as for other stuff it is probably going to be too easy for him - like learning letters and numbers.
BUT as for learning to write - he writes letters and numbers but they are not so pretty
So what is your advise: should I start with LHTH or get the next level for 5-7 y.o.?
I would really appreciate your input!Natalija

Welcome to HOD! Have you checked the placement chart to see where he falls mostly: http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php? One thing you could do is use LHTH but use the right side kindergarten options of LHFHG if you need to up the language arts and math portions for your ds. After you check out the placement chart, let us know what you think and we'll try to help you further.

Thank you, Patty for your quick response!
So if I use LHTH for bible studies, art, writing and so on, and LHFHG for reading and math, it means that I will need to buy the both programms, right?

Actually if your son can already read well, as in doesn't really need more phonics instruction and is reading easy reader books, he *may* be ready for the Emerging Readers which is in the Beyond Little Hearts for His Glory guide. You didn't say how old he is, this may be a bit much if he is only 4 or 5. But the placement page she referred you to would really give you a clearer picture of what he could do, therefore what you might need. Yes, if that suggestion was what you wanted to do, you would buy the LHTH guide, and the LHFHG guide along with whatever other books required for that - a reading/phonics instruction book, the math book, etc. If you wanted to do the Emerging Reader set you would have to buy the Beyond Little Hearts guide and the reader books for him to read.

Re: should we strart with LHTH or LHFHG?
Thanks for yor help.
BTW my son is 4 and half years old, sorry if I forgot to mention!
I have one more question. If I decide to buy LHTH - complete programm- so what exactly do I buy? I understand the programm itself costs 49$. This is the Guide , right? What else do I buy if I want to have all I need for this programm, some additional book, CD? Or everything is already included?
Sorry, I am asking these questions, I am completely new to buying a curriculum, and want to make sure I have it complete and do not miss anything!
Thank you for your help

Given your ds's age, I would think you would want to order the level 4/5 version of LHTH. If you get the package deal, you get the guide, the New Bible in Pictures, My ABC Bible Verses, and the Singing Bible for $79.99. If you want to add on the additional kindergarten option for LHFHG, you could get the kindergarten economy package for $79.99 or pick and choose the things you would need. You would definitely want the teacher's guide and then you could add on the fine motor skills books and math books. The package deals are usually a great way to go though and save money and if you do get the additional items with the program now, you will just use them the following year so it's money well spent.
After checking out the placement chart, where did you feel your ds best fit? We want to make sure you find the best fit for your ds. It could be that he is ready to start LHFHG in its entirety.
