Finished TRL

My ds 6 finished TRL.

We started in the middle of the summer after I realized that I wanted to give him a break from the more rigorous phonics program we did in his Kindergarten year. His fluency has greatly improved and he has truly enjoyed cementing what he had learned previously with TRL.
Daddy gave him his certificate after he finished reading his last story to him, and his reply was: "Thank you Daddy for teaching me to read!"
Well, I guess the few times that Daddy did his Reading Lesson with him were very monumental to him. As his main teacher I could not take offense to that at all.
Thanks Carrie for the recommendation of using TRL.

That's great to hear - way to go little guy, and way to go moedertje!

That is too funny.

Sounds like something my dc would say. Anything Daddy does is of superman capabilities, and somehow, I am just mom.

You managed to respond gracefully to this though - hats off to you. Though this kind of awe of the Daddy can be a tad annoying, then I think, "Well, would I rather they cared that much about somebody else?" Daddies are good heroes to have. But when your ds shows that certificate, know in your heart, YOU did that for him. Daddy helped, but you made it happen every day.

There. I'm giving credit where credit is due, from one homeschooling mom to another.
In Christ,
Julie

I so agree, that Dad is the best hero to have for our boys

Thank you Julie, I know all the hours of intensity it took to get this little boy to succeed.

God is teaching me to have a humble heart constantly

I'm so glad that your little sweetie enjoyed The Reading Lesson. I'm so proud of your little guy and of you and his daddy for the work you put into getting him to read.

This is one of those contented moments where you need to feel the joy of a job well done.
Thanks for sharing, so we can celebrate this milestone with you!
Blessings,
Carrie

Yay!!

That is great!
I have to laugh at him thanking Dad, too.

We had a similar comment here tonight. The kids were wanting to eat their goodies from our "store" at AWANA tonight, and they each had one treat after which Dad said "No" to any more. When asked why, he said, "Because I'm mean.

I think I'm the meanest Dad in the world." Instantly we heard from the backseat, "No you're not! Your the BEST Dad in the world!"

My hubby said, "Hmmm....guess I'm going to have to try a little harder to be mean then."

He is a FUN guy - not a pushover - but seriously FUN. We were joking about this after bedtime, and I told him that if he really wanted to improve his "mean" reputation all he'd have to do is stay home every day with them and I would leave.

I know my kids love me, too. But I'm pretty sure I'd be more exciting if I wasn't here all day every day.
