Carrie, thank you for recommending "King of the Wind" as an adventure genre for BLHFG. When I first started reading it to my daughter, I struggled a little bit with, "why this book?" because I knew nothing about it. I kept having to stop and explain many things to my daughter that I wasn't prepared for but I persevered past the first few chapters. My daughter loves all of God's creation and all His critters. Her top favorite is definitely horses. Well, she is like her Mama (me) in her love for God's creation. So I wasn't sure how she was going to handle some of the trials that Sham went through. All the while it was me, that had to stop a couple of times because I got choked up by the trials of Sham and Agba and not my daughter! She is so very sensitive but I am too!! Anyways, I have been so touched by this book, this horse, and of course by Agba! I just went online to look for more info on the horse and was excited to see that much of the base story line is true and even saw a real picture of the stone on top of Sham's burial site. I saw on Amazon that most of the reviews were outstanding and many adults read the book when they were about 8 or 9 and have kept the book through adulthood because of how special it was to them. I see why. So again, thank you for including this book in the recommended book list. We would have really missed out if we did not have this curriculum because I did not know about this book. I probably won't see the book again for a few days because I'm telling my teenagers about it so they can read it too. We missed this one when they were younger!

I thank the Lord for His goodness and His creation. And how He has blessed us with such magnificent creatures like horses to enjoy. But ultimately it is the Creator who is so Magnificient!! Praise the Lord!

I read this book and all the Marguerite Henry books multiple times growing up. This one and Justin Morgan had a horse were my favorites. In fact I still have my copies of several of them that I saved. The only one I had never read was Benjamin West and his cat Grimalkin and I just read that since my ds was reading it for DITHOR.

We loved that one too! We are currently finishing up Come on Seabiscuit with Bigger. Love it! I do, however, have to explain a lot of it to my daughter though, just like Kind of the Wind. It's worth it because this book too gives me goosebumps and brings me to tears! Love HOD's choice of books!

We loved "King of the Wind" here too. It has become a favorite, and it sparked an interest in all of Marguerite Henry's books. Like Lynnh, our sons favorites are "King of the Wind" and "Justin Morgan Had a Horse", with "Misty of Chincoteague" coming in next. I'm so glad you and your ds enjoyed it too, and I am also thankful for Carrie's talent of picking the most amazing books out there!

Oh, Theresa! I'm so glad that you enjoyed King of the Wind. I agree it is one to persevere through, but it stays with you forever! I think that was the first book I read to my boys that really brought home to them how very blessed we are to have food and shelter and to live where we live but even more to know our Creator! The boys couldn't wait to see what would happen to Sham and Abga either.
