CTC Storytime Question

Hi everybody!
We are starting CTC in January (YAY!) and I was just wanting some input on what those of you who have used/are using CTC have gotten for your child for the Storytime option? My DS said he really wants to read City from the History Interest package and The Shining Sword from the Boy Interest package! LOL!

We can't get both packages right now, but what did/would you do? There are books in both packages that I would love for him to read. Can you mix and match from each package? Or does that get too confusing? Or is there one that is a "must read" compared to the other?
I appreciate your thoughts!

We loved all the titles from the History Set!

Golden Bull, Boy of the Pyramids, and God King were all favorites here. My vote would be for the history set just because I feel that it added so much depth to what we learned. (Honestly it kind of kept me in the loop as I wasn't reading the regular history readings as we went along.)
I purchased The Shining Sword this year when we got the next DITHOR pack (since it includes the next one in the series). I'm planning to have Grant read it for DITHOR.

We loved all the History option books also. I also agree that they really enhance the history and made it much more real for my ds. My ds really enjoyed City and the 3 that Kathleen mentioned, but he honestly liked all of the books. I would just do The Shining Sword with DITHOR or let him read it on his own.

And I agree, too. The history readers are my son's favorite part of CTC (although the Philistine helmet came pretty close!). The books are perfectly chosen to complement the program.

I bought my dd the "girl interest" pack thinking it would likely to be pulling teeth to get her to read the history pack. Boy was I wrong. So now I have the girl interest pack sitting on my shelves because she really wanted me to order the history pack. She read The Golden Bull in 3 days

. After that I more monitored the second book to be able to do the activities and thought we were home free. Then she read Ruth in two....I suppose it's okay not to be able to keep up with her reading. Considering when we stared Beyond she hated reading.
All I can say is, "Thank you Lord!"

We did the History Set too, and I did feel like it helped Wyatt visualize what it was like to live during the ancients better. The books were amazing. We had trouble not reading ahead.

I got the boy set as well, and I let Wyatt read those at his leisure. The girl and boy sets can also be used with DITHOR, as they are genre based. However, all the sets are excellent - you really can't go wrong. If asked to vote though, I'd vote for the History Set.

Yep - Thank you Lord! This was great to hear, Annaz, and especially a real encouragement to those who may have a younger child not enjoying reading right now. We need to hear about the gains dc make over a length of time as moms, to keep the big picture in mind. Sometimes in the middle of it all, it's tough to see the forest for the trees. Thanks for this reminder to celebrate the growth our dc show over time!
In Christ,
Julie

Oh! Choosing is so hard, isn't it!

I'm just digging in to begin the book selections for the next guide's storytime and extension packs (for Missions to Modern Marvels), and I always find it harder to find the right books than you'd think.

It gets harder and harder too as the content matures and the books lengthen. We pray you will enjoy the History Interest Set in CTC as much as we did!
Blessings,
Carrie
