DITHOR question

Well our year is rolling along, but it seems like I cannot seem to fit the DITHOR in every day. Would this program be okay to do 3 days a week? What I was thinking was to have my sons read every day and narrate to me on the days that we don't do the lesson/workbook. With my oldest doing extensions for Bigger + DITHOR, his day is packed already! I feel that I would do better and not feel like I am letting this slide if I just scheduled it for 3 days. What do you think?

Also, I want to say that Bigger with extensions and DITHOR is PLENTY rigorous for my 10 year old! Whew! He likes it though, but is it normal for a 10 year old to be just right at his level in Bigger? I really can't imagine him being in Preparing right now. Anyone else finding this to be true with their 10 year old? I am really happy that I combined them this year. But I look at the ages on the guides and I can't IMAGINE my son being any higher than Bigger. Is that okay?

This is our first year hs'ing and my 2 olders (8 and 10) are using Bigger with the extensions. We did not use DITHOR this year because I didn't want to take on too much our first year. They are reading the books suggested, but just not doing the projects. I haven't used or seen the higher grade level guides in person, only online in the samples and pictures of what the others are doing. But, like you, our day is packed, and my 10 year old is fitting just right in it. I have a 7 year old also, and it would be WAY too much for him to handle. He is currently in LHFHG, but in all honesty, would probably do better in BLHFHG. It seems like his school day is over in no time, and like we didn't really didn't do too much. He needs a little more, but combining his along with the others in Bigger would be too much. He joins in with us on some of the activities that look fun to him. Mainly the art projects. OVerall, we are really enjoying Bigger. And actually, I've found my days so full sometimes that we have had to put off some of the activities until the next day. Today is actually a "catch up" day when we are going to make up all the science we've missed because we didn't have time for it the past few days. :)

Yes, Tina! :D Doing 3 days of HOD would be just fine for your 10 yo for sure, especially as he is doing the extensions, and if I remember right from another post, he is also reading his history and science (please correct me if I'm off here). So, for the 10 yo, I would just do 3 days of DITHOR and not add any narrations or anything else on those other 2 days. :D

The only one I wonder about is your 8 yo. At that age, dc really do need more reading instruction, and the continuity of reading each day is important. You may want to have just your 8 yo read to you a bit each day from his DITHOR book, to continue to have consistency reading each day to you. He can still do DITHOR lessons/workbook just 3 days a week with big brother, but I think it would be good to have him read to you still each day. This would make the readings short and sweet. HTH! :D

In Christ,
Julie

Thanks ladies. Those are very helpful thoughts! I think 3 days is plenty, and yes, I agree that my younger son (8) needs to read to me daily. Thank you!
