Oh yeah, that's why I'm doing this

Post by KristinBeth » Tue Oct 04, 2011 6:20 pm

I was recently having another flip-flop, "shouldn't I just put my kids in school like everyone else" moment due to some attitude/discipline issues with my 5 year old. I was thinking that maybe I wasn't really called to homeschool after all, maybe it was just a silly whim..."why am I even wanting to do this?".

Then two days later, along came Unit 1 of LHFHG and the verse of the week Matthew 19:14 -- Jesus said "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these". Or, "do not forbid them" as it says in another translation. Public school would definitely forbid them to come to Jesus, pray, learn about Him and lean on Him. THAT'S why I'm doing this. Good reminder.

God answered my question with LHFHG Unit 1!

You will never regret it, despite those bad days that do come around sometimes.

God's Word is right 100% of the time, and this verse was certainly timely. I find that homeschooling with HOD makes MY walk with the Lord richer, as well as my dc's. There are going to be bad days, but there will be good days too. Hang onto the good and forget the bad - Christ is at the center of your dc's learning with HOD, and that is bringing Him glory and giving your life incredible purpose. It is also leading your dc to the Lord step by step, each day, and hopefully opening their hearts to Him too. :D My ds's Bible verse in BHFHG this week is...

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." (Prov. 9:10)

I have come to believe that knowledge without the Lord is not really wisdom at all. I don't know what I was doing teaching public school all those years before I homeschooled. I run into some of my former students and they are getting married, or graduating from college, and though we hug and catch up, the Lord is still missing from our reminiscing, for He was never there to begin with. He couldn't be, or I would have been fired. Anyway, it makes me sad they don't know I love the Lord, and it makes me feel even sadder I didn't help them know Him. Teach your dc at home to know and love the Lord - there is no greater wisdom you can give them - and you won't have regret about leaving Him out of their day - you'll have joy at years well spent, with HOD, learning about Him and getting to know Him together.

In Christ,
Julie

Thank you for the support, ladies. Julie, your words touched my heart. The GREAT news is that we've had three smooth and easy days with LHFHG. :D Full-speed ahead!

I love Julie's sage words. Kristin, you will not regret it. We have those days. Oh, by the way, we are in Unit 2. :D God's good! Just wait till you hear her recite the verse for you, and things start to sink in! Just wait till Unit 2's memory verse is memorized. :D

Kristin,

You are so right that this is the reason we do what we do! Take heart that the Lord will equip you to answer His call. :D He is glorified through your obedience to Him, especially when the task is hard. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
