Experiencing God through HOD

I am constantly amazed at how God uses HOD in our lives. Our pastor is currently preaching about experiencing God and how if you only open your eyes to His work, you can see it all around you. God has made it abundantly clear to me lately how He is using this curriculum to touch my dc's and my life.

This week my dh's upper level boss told him to expect to move to another location or be laid off in the next 3 to 6 months. They are going to eliminate all employees working at remote locations and my dh is working from home. My dc found this news pretty disturbing since this is the only house and place that they remember. We've been here since they were 3 years old. The very next day we read in Life in the Great Ice how the ice wall was melting and Jabeth's grandfather was talking of how they might have to move on for better hunting. Jabeth had the same sort of apprehension about leaving the only place he had ever known much like the apprehension that my dc were feeling. Grandpa was dreading the thought of packing up and moving just like I was feeling. It was so applicable to how my dc and I were feeling that day and allowed us to talk about it and connect to the story. The grandfather's faith in God came through in that reading too and helped me reiterate to the dc how God is always in control and nothing catches Him off guard. It really helped my dc feel better about the situation.

Another thing astounds me. When I was trying to pick out which genre for DITHOR to start with, I looked through the character traits and was trying to pick one that would work on the traits that I thought my dc needed the most. I was looking at biography because I was thinking the traits of responsibility, diligence, and initiative would be great ones to work on. My dc looked through the books I had and really wanted to read the historical fiction ones that I had. So I reluctantly decided we would do historical fiction. At the time I didn't think that faith, perseverance, and courage were the traits that my dc needed to work on most. God knew differently. He knew that this challenge lie ahead and so perfectly is using this study to strengthen us.

These are just two examples that I have seen in the last week of God working through HOD in our lives. I know He is using it so many times that I don't clearly see. I am so thankful that God led us to HOD and so grateful to Carrie, Julie, and their families for following the path to which God called them. :D

Praise God. In our short time using HOD, we have also experienced God. Mostly mine has been through realizing the anointing of it for our particular lives. It is an answer to prayer for us in a very fast-paced beginning to our homeschool career.

Patty, I'll be praying for you and your family as God makes your next steps clearer in the weeks to come. Thank Him that He provides for our every need.

Patty, thank you for sharing this. It's very touching! :)

I want to encourage you (I'm a military spouse) in that moving can be a wonderful adventure. Children are very resilient, and I can say from experience that your children will adjust, and they will be just fine. There might be some challenges along the way with behavior and attitudes, because moving is stressful on the entire family. But just know that this is normal, and once you get settled and make your new house into home, it will be just fine! Please let me know if for some reason you end up in the San Antonio, TX area!

God is already in your home, and because of that, He will go ahead of you all and prepare the way. :D

Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers. I do appreciate them. My dh and I have been through this several times before so it isn't as difficult for us as our dc. Shannon it's encouraging to hear how your ds has adjusted and that my dc will do the same. You are so right that God goes before us and prepares the way. Whenever we've had to move before, God has always used it for good so we know whatever He has in store will be great.

One really great thing for our dc is that school will stay the same. I know when I moved when I was a child, it was always difficult switching schools. HOD will a wonderful constant in their lives and it will be wonderful for me too since the time efficiency of it will give me more time to attend to the many other things that will require my attention.

It's not likely that we'll end up in San Antonio though Texas is a real possibility. It would probably be Austin or the Dallas area. We really don't want to go to a large city though so Dallas is pretty low on our list. Of course that doesn't mean that it's low on God's list. :D
