Hi! I have been reading for a bit and thought I would just throw my question out there and see if y'all can help me.

This is our second year using HOD. Last year my girls did Creation to Christ. They were in 7th and 4th grades at the time, and the 7th grader did the extensions.

For the 7th grader, it was a perfect year, and she has moved on to RtoR this year for 8th grade, still doing extensions.

For the 4th grader, last year was a challenge. She did get a lot out of it, but she was definitely not ready to move forward, so this year she is doing Preparing and I am planning to have her repeat CtoC.

I was originally planning on dragging Preparing out for two years so she could have CtoC in 7th grade, because it just sticks in my mind as the perfect 7th grade material. Then we got started and she was breezing through and loving it, and didn't want to stretch it out over two years.

The oldest will finish RtoR this year, and the middle will finish Preparing this year. I am not quite sure what to do next year, particularly with the middle one. I'm considering maybe doing CtoC over two years with her, then picking up the pace when she is in 8th grade. Maybe? Is there another suggestion that y'all have? Or maybe I could somehow use CtoC and RtoR over a three year span. (Actually - I just thought of that, and that might be the perfect solution. Maybe.)

And the oldest ... is Rev to Rev going to be appropriate for high school? I thought there was a thread about that here somewhere, but in my searching this morning couldn't find it.

I am just starting to think about high school plans, can you tell?
And I'm always trying to find a good fit for my middle one.

(Oh ... and I have a kindergartener too, doing Little Hearts.) We are big HOD fans!

Welcome to the board Melanie! It sounds like you are enjoying HOD and that your plan for this year is working well. I'm not for sure how it would be best for you to proceed for your middle dc, so I'll let someone else tackle that. I'm newer at HOD than you, and only have a 2nd grader, but I've decided to just go at HIS pace. If we get a guide done in one "school year" fine, if it takes an extra couple months, or even another school year that's ok too. I think I'd have the next level ready for her and when you get there you get there. Add the extensions since she's a great reader, let her add rabbit trails if she finds something interesting, and just see how she does. If she does great full speed then let her go with it. Or she might go full speed then to slow down. Whatever works for dd.

And don't let high school freak you out.

For the oldest, I think I have a plan ... kind of.

For the middle one, I might very well just stretch CtoC over two years. She has done it all but the extensions, but she will definitely benefit from going through it again. If she does that, then she can follow her sister's plan from there on out.

Then there's the little one. What do y'all do in the middle years? If he finishes Little Hearts for K, should I start the next guide for him for 1st? Or do some reading and strengthen his r's for a year? (And feel free to tell me to browse around some more because I know I can't be the only one who has had that question.)

If I were you just starting out with a 5 year old in K, I would do LHFHG, Beyond, and Bigger just 4 days a week stretching it out to almost 4 years instead of 3. I think with your older dc doing 4 days a week, that would work out better anyway. Since your ds is so young just starting K, I might even start just doing it 3 days a week to stretch it out longer. Another idea is to do LHTH and just add the right-side K options of LHFHG for the K year and then use all of LHFHG using the 1st grade options for first grade.

For your child doing PHFHG, I think you made a good decision to clip along with it. She sounds ready for it, and she is doing great with it, so why not? You may find she is ready for CTC full-speed, and if so, I'd just do that. I have found when dc are ready for full-speed, they may as well do it. More than likely, they'll need to slow down at some point, and then you'll have the flexibility to do so. Or, on the flip side, the planner in me likes this option too...

You could have your dd do 140 days of school each school year to match the number of days your older child will be doing school. You could spread CTC and RTR out over 3 years, doing the first portion half-speed to ease dd into each guide, and then finishing full-speed. Three years x 140 days of school would = 420 days. You'd want to spend 210 days total then, on each guide. So, you could do this plan over the next 3 years...

Half Speed CTC for 10 weeks of plans, which would take 80 days to do
Full-speed CTC for 32.5 weeks, which would take 130 days
A total of 210 days spent on CTC.

Half-speed RTR for 10 weeks of plans, which would take 80 days
Full-speed RTR for 32.5 weeks, which would take 130 days
A total of 210 days spent on RTR.

If this makes no sense, just forget I mentioned it! But the options are endless with HOD! HTH!
