Just wanted to say how cool of a science project is scheduled for this day. The "germs" in the cup (mouth) was a hit with both my kids. It really illustrated well how germs are spread. I did take it a step farther and had DS wet his hand and then "sneeze" the germs into his hand therefore making them stick. Then I had him open the refrigerator. The "germs" stuck to the door handle. Then I opened the refrigerator and the "germs" stuck to my hand. It was a great experiment! Thanks so much, Carrie!! :D :D :D LOVING HOD more and more everyday! In fact, we are planning a family vacation next week and the kids will be getting an 11 day vacation from school as well (a well deserved break  ). They aren't nearly as sad about it as I am though! I can't wait to get back to it when we return! :D :D :D

It's terrible, but I don't remember doing this. :( What are the germs made of? It sounds like so much fun and your extension of the activity is great! :D

Hey Patty!

The 'germs' were little tiny pieces of paper we tore up and placed in a styrofoam cup (the mouth). I used some red construction paper because we're out of regular printer paper. :D But it worked well because you could really see all those little red 'germs' all over the counter and door handle. :P

That sounds fun! I vaguely remember that now. I wish I had thought to use red construction paper and extend the activity like you did! :D

Patty, that's one of the reason I am in love with HOD. They have so many great ideas and it just gets my braining whirling sometimes! :D Sometimes the kids take off and run with ideas. It really opens the door to so much exploration for all of us! And that's what it's all about, right? :D :D

Oh! and I had a great laugh today doing our North Star experiment. I taped a ball of tinfoil in the corner of the dining room to be our star. Well, I must say it didn't get rave reviews - it did look sorta pathetic hanging up there. Even my dad, upon seeing it, asked why I didn't actually place in it the north corner of the house.  Ok, ok, so they are all not great moments!  :D

alydar - This was such a great science experiment! I think it did more to get my dc to wash their hands than all of my motherly reminders to do so have done in years past. :D You made it such fun and really got into with your dc too - that makes a difference too! With flu season around the corner, this was pretty timely. I'm so glad you and your dc had such fun with it! :D

In Christ,
Julie
