Really finding his groove with oral narration

Post by LynnH » Wed Sep 28, 2011 11:00 am

This is our third year of HOD. Since he came from a ps setting narration has been totally new for both of us. I feel like finally he is orally narrating the way it is described in the manual and similiar to the examples I have seen posted. Today he did an oral narration of "The Mystery of the Silver Coins" and he actually captured the the authors voice and used some words from the book and some of his own and even added in his own prediction for the mystery. Of course it helps that this is probably his favorite book series of all time. His written narrations are not quite there yet, but I feel like that will come in time. Also I have convinced him to use something called a see n read that enables him to read one line at a time and his reading comprehension has soared this week. This is already helping his written narration. I mainly wanted to share this so that those of you just starting on your HOD journey can have hope that your dc will get the hang of narration.

That is so wonderful to hear! It is really nice to hear these success stories. I still feel that my dc have a ways to go in this area, but I continue to see improvement and your post gives me hope that one day they'll get there. It's great that you are seeing the fruits of the previous years hard work coming together. Great job, both of you! :D

So excited for you and your ds, this is very encouraging! Narration takes much time to learn for the kiddo's and I think for most of us Mom's to get used to teaching it. Thanks for sharing :D :D
