Cornmeal substitution

Tomorrow we'll be on Unit 3, Day 4, where the History Activity uses cornmeal or sand. I don't have either one of those, and I can't go to the store until Friday. (One of /those/ weeks.) Can anyone tell me if flour or powdered sugar would work? Maybe if I use something to color the water that I put in the pan?

You could use dirt, potting soil, or just get some dirt outside that is dry. I think flour would work ok too. HTH
Blessings!

The flour worked beautifully, and, wow, what a great teaching tool! I had the girls draw their own rivers and diagram them before we did the activity, too. Now both my girls can tell you the different parts of a river, and all the directions on a Compass Rose!
This is SO MUCH FUN!!
