Hello

I'm a new homeschooling mom to a 6 1/2 year old.

We are looking forward to receiving our new curriculm. I know the website states most items needed to support the lessons are easily found around the house. However, we moved pretty recently and often things I want to find I still haven't done so amidst the unpacked items.

Would anyone be able to offer a list of the items needed? I saw a turkey baster for one of the lessons along with masking tape for another when looking on line at the example of the first week. I would prefer not to have to read through each week if there was a list of recommended items available from the start. Then I could take my little shopping list and stock up.

Thanks for any input. It's greatly appreciated.

Food coloring is used in several units. Powdered sugar is used a couple of times. Cotton balls, construction paper -humm, for being on unit 28 I am sure lacking thoughts. I'll keep thinking. There are not a lot of things that you don't have handy, but like you said, you just moved. You will want to find your crayons, glue and scissors right away. You will probably want index cards for the spelling words, that was the easiest for me. Well, if I think of something else I'll post again. The boys are getting hungry

Various colors of paint and masking tape are a couple of other things that come to mind.

The ladies are doing a great job of answering your question. I just thought I'd chime in here and answer a bit more about why we chose not to include a supply list with our guides. As you mentioned the turkey baster, I'll just share that the guide actually says you can use a "dropper, baster, or a squirty toy" on Unit 1 - Day 2 of the plans. So, if we made a supply list that said "baster" it would be inaccurate, as families can use a dropper, baster, or squirty toy to perform the activity.

One of the great features you will discover with HOD is that we love to give you options as often as possible for supplies for activities. In this way, it makes it much more of an open-and-go curriculum, and makes not having the right supplies an exception rather than the rule.

It would be helpful to have a well-stocked art cabinet with normal art supplies that you would find in the art aisle of any major store. Since you just moved, if you feel more comfortable at first looking ahead in the guide, it is likely that you would only need to glance at the bottom left box on the left page each week. We don't even do that at our house, as we truly just open and go. Hopefully once you are unpacked, you will find the same to be true! I think over time, you will find that you won't need to look ahead.

Making a supply list of all the various options suggested in our guide would be confusing at best. I've used supply lists from many curriculums and found the supplies to be expensive to gather and difficult to find a place to store. We desire to move away from that and take care to write activities within our guides that can typically be done with what you have on hand. We provide multiple supply options whenever possible, making it even easier to just open-and-go. We hope you'll be pleasantly surprised with this feature of HOD!
