singapore math drill question

We have just started HOD this year! So many questions! In the past I used singapore math with my oldest through 3a but then realized she just never had enough practice with memorizing the basic facts. I've read about singapore and still like the value behind it but wonder how or if HOD believes there should be more practice/drill with the facts beyond what the text and workbook require?? I've read that in singapore they use extra drill type books like kumon books. Does HOD schedule extra practice somehow?? Or maybe my oldest isn't the average and just needed more? Now with my younger I also ordered the HIG for singapre 1a and realize there is so much more that is sapposed to be mastered vs just going through the pages in the text/ workbook?? Does the HOD guide hands on activities accomplish what the HIG tries to do?

Here's what I've found using Singapore for the first time in 1a/BLHFHG. The activities scheduled in HOD are similar to suggestions in the HIG. The HIG offers more ideas to help cement the basics. That being said, we are working at our own pace through Singapore. As soon as we hit number bonds, I quit following the HOD schedule and activities and used the extra activities in the HIG along with drill practice that I created on my own. After a week of that, we're now back to where we left off with HOD scheduling. Being that I used some drill, my dd was able to complete a little more than scheduled, and we're not behind at all as far as the HOD scheduling goes. It's more important to me to get the basics down and cemented than it is to stay on schedule with HOD for the math. My plan is to follow the schedule as much as possible until I see an area that needs extra time spent or a little extra drill. I plan on Sunday night for the week, so I'll create any extra drill or activities for the week and implement them as needed.

thanks, I also plan to go at my daughters pace but wondered how that would work out with a day to day schedule... good to here it can be done! so you created your own drill, I have calculadder but that does a different meathod, I probably would have to create something too?

Singapore does offer a book called Primary Mathematics Intensive Practice, it's a booklet of extra practice problems. I don't know if they have one for every level, but I bought one for 3A. Hope that helps!

I think I did see something for 1A/B on their website. I may get one in the future for harder stuff. I just have a notebook where I write down problems and then she does them. We also used legos and did drill that way. The concepts are simple enough right now that I can do that. When we get more complicated, it will be easier to buy a practice book.

I just realized that it should still be simple at this age!! And flash cards will probably work just fine as needed.
