I have to whine for a minute

I knew this was coming. Dd started her Tuesday tutorial last week. So our lovely HOD schedule is no longer so lovely. No more starting fresh every Monday. Tomorrow we'll have to finish up last week's unit, then start a new unit on Wednesday.

I can't wait till we get to Preparing.

And no, the Tuesday tutorial isn't absolutely necessary, except to my dd's emotional well-being. She really needs that one day a week to get away from toddler-land, have a quasi-school experience, and have a set of friends to see regularly.

I am sorry I am one who likes to do one unit a week M-F so that would be hard for me too. And now I am going half speed so that is harder.
You will get used to it though and just go like you are. Or what we did was if we missed a day we schooled on Saturday. You may not be up for that though but it helped me feel better about doing one unit a week. :-/

Is the tutorial all day? Can you do part of HOD before you go and the rest when you get back? Or all of HOD when she gts back? Or the Saturday option. LHFHG is only an hour or so to complete. If you ask your daughter which she would rather do, she may do her LHFHG on the tutorial day without complaining or disputing so that she can stay on track.

Yes, the tutorial is all day, plus she has her dance classes in the late afternoons (the only day her level was offered), so the day is pretty well shot for any extra schooling. Dd is actually in Beyond, so that takes a little longer.

Saturday might be an option sometimes, but I can't count on it.

I know there's nothing to be done, that's why I just called it a whine.

Well... since she is on the youngest side of the guides, she could... :D
2011-2012: 6 yo, Beyond 4 days a week for 35 weeks (she'd get to Unit 28)
2012-2013: 7 yo, Beyond 4 days a week for 7-8 weeks to finish it out to Unit 34; Bigger Hearts half-speed 4 days a week for the remaining about 27 weeks (she'd get to about Unit 11 this way)
2013-2014: 8 yo, Bigger Hearts full-speed 4 days a week, finishing out Units 12-34, which would take a little over 28 weeks; for the remaining 7 weeks she could do half-speed PHFHG for 4 days a week
2014-2015: 9 yo full-speed remainder of PHFHG

Or, perhaps this is totally confusing and creates more of a whine - and if so, I'm so sorry! :D Just don't even entertain the idea if it doesn't appeal. Just thought I'd throw it out there!

In Christ,
Julie

I am right there with you. My DD will be part of a co-op on Thursday (of course 2 of the 8 months I will be helping with it, the rest of the time she is gone for the morning). She has dance Thursday afternoons. I may or may not try to squeeze in some school in the afternoon but the reality is I don't think I can really do it. I've planned out my schedule with 4 days/week of Beyond and like Julie said, I've just accepted the fact that we won't finish Beyond this year. In fact it'll be good to slow it down a little because I'm not really sure she'd be ready for Bigger next fall anyway.

The finisher in me doesn't want to do it this way. I too would love to just do one unit each week, I like the completeness of it. I was torn about the co-op but ultimately it's going to be the best thing for her, I know it. So - I know exactly how you feel!

Thank you Julie that was very enlightening. I think that may be how we use those two guides. My son is so young now doing Beyond I would like to stretch it out and half pace is not going very well.

Well, we'll still finish on time, barring any unforeseen complications, since we started early. That's not what's bothering me. It's just that school feels very sporadic, with the break on Tuesdays and having to start units on random days.

However, I noticed that it didn't seem to phase her that we started a new unit today, so it's probably bugging me more than her.

I feel your pain... But really if you did a field trip or etc.. it will mess it up.

And think in a few weeks you will start a week on day one... just like a stopped clock is right 2 times a day. :D

I'm similarly inclined but I got over it. We school year round and I remind myself we have plenty of time. I imagine it's not so easy if you don't, though. *hugs*

Just for a different take. I never worry about starting the first day on Monday and our school really does flow. You do still get the same feel and repetition of format even if you do not start on the perfect day of the week for a new unit. :D I know everyone is different and that may not be for you. There is no way we could keep up that format. We just have so many appointments I would be constantly frustrated. But given that I never felt like it had to be that way it has just been really fine. If you find a way that works for you to do that and it works better for you than by all means. But just hate to see you throw out the blessing just by missing that perfect line up. I think you will still find a kind of perfection no matter how you do it. :D

Love this, Julie! I'm using it because we are also in a co-op. :) Not forever, just this year. I really felt the Lord leading us to join this particular group. :)
