Bigger: A more balanced half speed schedule?

Post by momtofive » Thu Aug 25, 2011 11:22 am

We are doing Bigger Hearts at half speed for my dd7 this year. It's going pretty well, although we see a lot of skills that she is needing some time to develop, hence the half speed!

Anyway, I've noticed our half speed schedule seems a bit lop-sided. The first half is heavier and the second half is lighter. I really want our days to be somewhat balanced, so she doesn't feel like she's doing so much in one day. Here's what we're doing:

1st half:
Reading About History
Rotating Box
Bible Study Box

2nd Half:
Science Exploration
Corresponding Music Box
Poetry Box

Then each day we do:
Handwriting
Spelling
Copywork
Math
Emerging Readers
English 2

Just wondering what others do, when they are running Bigger at half speed? Thanks so much! :D

I've posted my schedule which I based off of advice and examples and schedules from Carrie and Julie. I only have my phone right now but will try to find it. If you search my old posts from a few months ago you might find it before me!

Maybe this thread will help with balance...

How does half-speed look in your home?

One thing you could do since your dd is only 7 yo is just do everything half-speed. We did this and enjoyed it, but that's just one idea to consider. HTH! :D

Julie, thank you so much for the link to that thread! :D

One thing I realized after posting this question, is that I have her doing a lot more than she probably should. I need to re-evaluate what we do each day and break it up a little better. I printed off your Bigger Hearts half speed schedule and am going to sit down this weekend and make it more balanced!

Thanks for helping me realize what I can do to make her Bigger Hearts experience a blessing to her, and a time of growth skillwise!

Glad to help, and I fully realize that whatever we did may not work for everyone, but maybe it will help give a starting point! Happy planning! :D
