Loving BLHFHG so far!

Post by Littlelight » Tue Aug 23, 2011 8:43 pm

We started school yesterday and my girls are loving Beyond!

The outline of the globe, the experiment with the ocean currents...I love that not only am I teaching them academics, but we're making memories, too!
Even my 11 yr old son had to come an watch and see what was going on....(and have a turn squirting the turkey baster to make the 'boat' move.) LOL

I know it's sticking with them, too, because this evening we were under a tornado watch and my 6 yr old said to me,
"Mom! It's just like our poem, "The Storm!" " :D

That is so neat, isn't it? We had a similar experience a couple of months ago when my dd started Beyond. We had just read "The Storm" and that evening we had some rough weather come through. Something about having that poem fresh on our minds made the weather a little more exciting than scary to us for once :D

So glad you're loving BLHFHG!!!

We have a similar story. This is our first week, so we're also on The Storm. Let's just say that the poetry and history did not go over well on the first day. But today we got a bad storm right as we were about to do the poetry and something about having a storm and doing the poem just went hand-in-hand and she said, "I'm really glad you picked this poem today."

I'm glad you're enjoying it. We started Beyond this year, too, and are loving it. For some reason, we skipped the ocean current experiment, but maybe I should squeeze it in on a different day. :D I'm sure your girls will have a lot of fun this coming year.

We are enjoying it too. We read "The Storm" the first day and learned the Bible verse Psalm 4:8 "I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O Lord, keep me safe." and that night we had a tremendous thunderstorm that sent our dd into our bedroom from fright of the deafening thunder. The next day the sun was shining and it was a beautiful day - just like in the poem. As we reread the poem on Day 2, my daughter went on and on how real the poem was and how the verse helped her and that even though she had to sleep in our bed, she knew God would keep us all safe. What a blessing! I'm glad you are enjoying it too.
I've done all the guides now with at least one child and still feeling the HOD LOVE. LOL!

Its awesome to hear others stories! We just started hs'ing 2 weeks ago, and I am doing Beyond with dd. We really do have lots of fun each day, and are done in under 2 hours. DD loves that! I didnt really know how much of the poem the Storm she would be able to remember, but she remembered almost all of it and could recite it to me, very exciting. Same with the 1st memory verse. Since all of this is new, she was a bit hesitant at first with Bible and Poetry time, but is really getting into it now.

This is my second time teaching Beyond (5 year gap), and it's just as good as the first time when I taught our oldest. I think it might even be better the second time. Our son is really enjoying it (2nd week). I love seeing him get excited about learning, especially math and language which seem to be his two favorite subjects. He made the map today in Geography (U2D3), and I was so excited for him. Often he gets frustrated if something he makes doesn't look like what he thinks it should. He never once got upset and was very pleased with the results. That made me so happy to see him overcome his desire for perfection and be pleased with his best effort. I'm glad to hear everyone else and their children are enjoying it too!

What a neat story! :D We have found that poetry brings to life many connections and emotions. If ever there was a way to enjoy a storm, I do believe poetry may be it! :D We loved BLHFHG. It is that way the whole way through - you have many happy days ahead! Thanks for sharing!
