Question About DC On the Young End of the Spectrum...

I got to thinking of this the other night (ummm, probably should have thought of this back in June when ordering, but I had no clue what I was doing  ), but both my kids are on the young side (dd is 6, 7 in November and is doing Beyond, did ps K last year) and ds is 9 (turned 9 in April and was in 3rd grade at ps). Now, would I be moving them after this yr to the next level? I dont think they would be ready, b/c dd is only technically in 1st grade now and wouldnt she skip some of the 2nd grade stuff in Beyond or does does Bigger cover 2nd grade? And ds is only doing the 2A/2B math and Beginning Wisely level 3 LA now. I was thinking if they werent ready to move on, I cant do the same plans 2 yrs in a row with them, b/c the history/storytime/Bible, etc would be the same right, or am I missing something? Any thoughts as to what others do if their dc have been on the very young side would be greatly appreciated :D .

Oh, and I just wanted to add that we LOVE HOD (we have completed our first week!) and I definately want to stick with it for a long time ( I will have a dc starting K next yr and already thinking about what I will use with him :D ), but just confused about moving them along to the next level, esp if they are not ready (really thinking of ds here).
Thank you!

Hi Stawna! Nothing to worry about here - when your 6 yo finishes Beyond, you'll just move her up into Bigger Hearts. If she needs a bit of time to grow into it, you can do Bigger Hearts half-speed for a bit. :D When your 9 yo finishes PHFHG, you'll just move him up into CTC. If he needs a bit of time to grow into it, you can do CTC half-speed for awhile. As far as his math, when he finishes the level he is in, you can just move him up to the next level, and the same goes with his grammar. This will work just fine! :D Just be sure to do each part of the plans completely with each of your dc, and they will be ready for the next guide. HOD guides are written for a range of ages because all dc are different in what they can/should do at a certain age. So, Beyond is not really a "first" grade program or a "second" grade program, but rather just a guide to be enjoyed with dc who are needing those skills. :D Set your worries aside and just thoroughly enjoy Beyond and PHFHG - HOD has you covered for the rest of the years to follow. HTH!

In Christ,
Julie

You're right, they will probably most definately be ready by next year, with as well as they are doing so far in both programs. The worry-wort in me was coming out! And we are all enjoying this new adventure immensely. Doesnt mean all days go wonderfully, but most do, and HOD makes it very easy for us moms to teach. I really love this program and am so glad God led me to it!! Thank you for your words!
