I originally ordered SL this year but that is going back, just not crazy about the books for Intro to World History.
So, now I am ordering Bigger.
My kids are advanced readers. I have a 7 yr old girl and 9 yr old boy - both read and comprehend about 5th grade books.
SHould I go with 2/3 or 4/5?????
HELP!!!
Thank you in advance!!!!
I need to order today

Re: Serious help ASAP
Hi,
I think it has more to do w their writing ability than reading ability. I'm not an expert but I think both of them could start in 2/3. The nine -year-old might want the 4/5 if he has had some literature already. I'm sure others will chime in as well.

You will love it!

I agree with the pp that which DITHR student book you order is more dependent on writing ability than on reading ability. You can use books at the proper reading level with either student book. The level 4/5 student book will have more writing and a bit more in depth questions/thinking than the level 2/3. Here are samples of each:
Level 2/3 student book: http://www.heartofdakota.com/pdf/d2.pdf
Level 4/5 student book: http://www.heartofdakota.com/pdf/d3.pdf
I would definitely stick with the level 2/3 student book for your 7 year old. Your 9 year old could go either way, but if this is your first time with literature study or if he doesn't like to write too much, I would stick with level 2/3. If you are thinking of the book packages for DITHR, I would choose ones that are at or slightly below their reading level. DITHR will require them to think more deeply about what they read so you don't want to be stretching them too much as far as reading comprehension. So probably the level 3 book package would be about right since the reading level is from 3.5 to 5.1. If your son is reading at a slightly higher level, you might consider the boy package of level 4/5. There are some awesome books in that package with the reading level being from 4.0 to 5.7.
Welcome to HOD. We enjoyed Bigger last year. You're in for a great year!
