Just starting......should I be grading?

Post by lindacn78 » Wed Aug 17, 2011 5:55 am

We just started Little Hearts and Preparing Hearts this week. We are loving it! I absolutely love not having to spend so much time preparing! It's all there! I actually have time to be a mom and a wife! Anyway, I'm wondering if some of you could give me an idea about how to take grades or keep a record of their progress, or if I should even be worried about that right now. Thanks for any advice!!

We don't grade at all...I may by the time we get to high school. I do check their work and have them correct any mistakes. For record keeping, I write down what date we complete each lesson. They also each have a binder of their work (copywork, maps, artwork, writing, etc.). So far I've been hanging onto their math workbooks, but I'll probably end up just adding a few pages to their binder for the year.

I started grading my son this year (8th grade) to get us both used to it before he hits high school. Before that, I don't grade. I know the progress they are making--I'm sitting right there! :) We just keep their notebooks as a record.

This year, things like math and English are easy to grade, and I made rubrics for history and science.
