Good Morning,
In about a week, I will be starting my 3rd year of homeschooling and my first year with Heart of Dakota. I'm hoping and praying that this curriculum is my lifesaver and that we might, finally, have a smooth homeschooiling year.

With this new curriculum come lots of questions for me :-) I'm hoping I can get some of these questions answered on this board.

1. Due to a job change and loss of income with my husband's job, I'm working on an extremely tight budget this year so I'm trying to purchase only what is required and needed at this time to start my school year. So my question is, does the Bigger Hearts For His Glory follow a particular book all the way through before beginning a new book. For example: Will I be starting my year with A First Book in American History and using this book for several weeks before we move on to Stories of Great Americans? And, the same question for Science...will we complete One Small Squaure - Seashore before continuing to Science in Colonial America? Does this question make sense?

I'm aware that there are some savings when ordering the entire Economy Package together but at this time it is more challenging to come up with the entire package money up front so it will benefit us to buy the books as we need them. I'm not sure if anyone sales used books through this site or if that is even appropriate to ask but if so, I'd be interested in purchasing used items as well. I guess, I'm looking for a scope and sequence so I know exactly what I'll be needing my first month of school. Make sense?

The same goes for Drawn Into the Heart of Reading, can I order the Teachers Book and Manual and then check out a particular book from the library or do I need to order the entire set? And, finally, The Deluxe Package question. Is this package part of the daily lessons to read some of these stories together? If so, is there a scope and sequence I can review to know which books I will be needing first?

I hope these questions make sense.I apologize for the "lengthy" message but I'm beginning to get overwhelmed trying to get all of my things together on such a tight budget this year. Im hoping to have everything that is necessary by next week and add to my curriculum as I need them for assignments.

Any suggestions and help is much appreciated!

Sincerely,
Tuesday Wilson

Welcome! If you read the "Welcome, please read!" thread at the top of the main board, it has details about what types of info is allowed. They do not allow discussion of buying and selling used items.
To start Bigger, it looks like you'll need:
Bigger Hearts guide
First Stories in American History continuing on and off through unit 25
Journeys in Time starting in unit 5 oops, ETA... unit 1 :)
Stories of Great Americans starting in unit 6
One Small Square: Seashore into unit 5
Science in Colonial America starting unit 5, through end of unit 9
Little Pillows devotional
Storytime: a biography through the end of unit4 (one of the package suggestions, or one of your own chosing) - there are questions in the guide that help with teaching narration and discussing Godly character traits (or lack thereof  ) Look at the sample week to see examples of questions/activities.
Storytime: An adventure story starting in unit 5.

HTH - I need to go, but I'm sure someone else will chime in to answer more of your questions :D

I'm back, partly to give you a "bump" in case anyone else wants to add anything :)

For Drawn into the Heart of Reading, you just need the manual and appropriate-level student book. You can use a book you own or a library book for the different genres. I do recommend getting their "Sample book list" if you can, as it has recommendations for each genre, subdivided by level. Though everyone needs to be vigilant for what kind of books they want their dc to read, I do find that HOD's recomendations are interesting as well as conservative regarding what topics/attitudes might be discussed (at the younger ages, anyhow.) Using the DITHOR guide for reading (as well as the regular guide for storytime activities) also includes discussion of Godly character traits and whether the characters are showing them or not, which I really appreciate.

Hi, Tuesday! Welcome! :D

We just started Bigger this week, and I wanted to let you know that "Journeys in Time" actually is used in the very first unit (day 4). (Sorry to contradict you, krismoose!!! I hope I did not offend!)
