You girls on the board are going to put me out of a job! Cristi, I couldn't give you any better advice than the moms have given you here. It is EXACTLY what I would recommend. :D

You have a wonderful plan, and I'm excited for your girls.

Blessings,
Carrie

Cristi, I'm just a compulsive helper :D-I love to research and think things through "aloud"-my dh gets like this when I start talking to him  Good thing I have the other HODies to discuss things with! And, don't feel bad about taking time to see what works for your kids and what doesn't, it took me about 12 weeks to realize the history extension pack for Bigger Hearts was too hard for my 10-year-old-you'd think I'd be quicker to notice such things after years of homeschooling  I kind of envy you starting at the beginning, because I didn't know about HOD when my youngest kids were the age of yours, and my oldest kids were too old for HOD when it first came out. That must be why I'm so eager to encourage others to try it!

Carrie-it's because you have taught us so well with your help and expert advice that we are so eager to share the same with others-maybe we'll lighten your load a bit

I just wanted to say that the copywork included in the manuals does wonders for a child's handwriting! We used Beyond for my 1st grader and are using some of it again this year, and the copywork is something we are sticking with. It allows them to practice their handwriting daily, and my daughter's writing had improved tremendously after only one month of HOD. I actually took her notebook to my mom's so she could see the difference and she was amazed too. :D Be encouraged that your daughters will get what they need..it's been a great program for us.

Cristi - I'm so glad that you feel a sense of peace about it all, and now you can just get excited to begin! I agree with inHistiming about the copywork. I think it has not only helped my ds's neatness of writing, but it has also turned my ds into a good speller. This still surprises me because he needed speech for several years, and his sounding out ability for words was not a strength of his. Now he does very well overall with his spelling, and I really do think the copywork, and now the dictation and copywork (we're in Bigger... now) have turned him into a good speller. Presto! Who knew it would be that simple? Lucky Carrie thought of it!

Woohoo - I just went and placed my order for the LHFHG! Thank you all so much for helping me figure out what to do. I'm excited to do the program...of course, I'm won't be starting it until this summer sometime but I'm still excited. Can you tell I'm a planner!

And thanks for the info on the copywork. I wasn't even thinking of that for the handwriting practice but you guys are right...just this year alone my daughter's handwriting has improved so much and I know it is just because she has the copywork for practice every week!

Thanks again! I can't wait to start perusing all the pages! :D
