About the new K math
Re: About the new K math
I'm new to HOD this Fall and will be using Little Hearts would it be better to wait until the new guide is available to begin this school year? Any idea when it would be available?

Re: About the new K math
I may be completely wrong, but my guess is that the new math plans Carrie will write will not be done until after the new high school guide is done this summer, and even then there may not be a whole new LHFHG guide. The new plans may instead be a supplemental download or package to order. HOD customer service may be able to tell you what the plan is. I personally wouldn't wait to start in order to get the new math plans, as good as I'm sure they'll be, as I think the gentle nature of the Essential Math books coupled with the occasional activities listed at the bottom of the pages should be sufficient for most kids, as they are for my ds. You can also look through the math plans for the Earlybird Math already written in the LHFHG guide and pick out ones you'd like to do with applicable Essential Math pages. Carrie suggests how you can use the Essential Math books now toward the bottom of her second post on this page: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=12379.blessedmomto6 wrote:I'm new to HOD this Fall and will be using Little Hearts would it be better to wait until the new guide is available to begin this school year? Re: About the new K math
Carrie,
I apologize for copying plans from the book. My reason for doing so was because I couldn't visually manage to match activities without doing a whole lot of flipping of pages in both the LHFHG manual AND Essentials at the same time. I figured that, since I wasn't planning to share what I retyped, that it would make it easier for me to just type out all the activities and make the matches from a master list. It was wrong, though, to print out a list of your copyrighted activities, and I do apologize for that.
To those who have asked (via this thread or private message), I am retyping everything to put it in a format than can be shared without violating any copyrights. I got about halfway finished this weekend, and I hope to complete the rest next weekend. It probably won't be exactly what Carrie will choose to do, but it's what I think will match up best for us. Hopefully it will work for some of you, as well!
I'll try to finish it up next weekend, and then I'd like to make sure that it is approved by Carrie before sharing it with the rest of you. As long as Carrie approves, I'll let you know here when it is finished

You are so gracious to mention the copyright. Thank you so much!I am impressed that you have worked to match up the activities from LHFHG to the new math (something which I haven't had time to do yet)! That is wonderful!
Technically, as far as copyright goes, the only copyright infringement in this situation was the photocopying of the math activities to place inside your math books for sorting purposes (something which we will definitely overlook as your heart was in the right place and you took time to do what we have not yet gotten a chance to do).

So, as far as sharing your match-up plan with others, you can certainly do so if desired by just making sure not to copy or include any part of the activities from LHFHG in your plan. That means that if you just list the pages of the Essentials 'K' math with the matching "Unit" and "Day" of the math activity from LHFHG you will be fine!It is completely up to you though whether you wish to type something like that up for others.

My one request is that you not share the schedule in a post on this board, the reason being that it could confuse families who search the board in the future once we do rewrite the plans. But, you can easily share your match-up through private message or email. You are so kind to consider sharing with others, and we definitely want to give families every opportunity to be successful with the Essentials K math.Thank you for your willingness to encourage others on the HOD path! What a blessing this board is!
