Time For Little Hearts

Post by blessedmommyof4 » Sun Jun 23, 2013 1:52 pm

I just wanted to ask how long it normally takes to do the left side only of Little Hearts? If anyone would be willing to give me a breakdown of how long each block takes on that side of the plans that would be a huge help as well. I am trying to plan our routine for next year. This will be our first year using HOD, so I have no idea how long each box will take. This is what I was thinking. Please tell me if I am on the right track.

Reading About History: 15 minutes
Science Discovery: 15 minutes
Rhymes in Motion: 10 minutes
Bible Study: 15 minutes
Corresponding Music: 5 minutes

So, for the left side it may take about an hour. Are my estimates accurate?

Then, for the right side of the plans. I was thinking that Storytime would take about 30 minutes because of the discussion and skills introduced. Is this correct?

How long do you think the fine motor skills will take if I am working in both books? (I will have a K dd and 1st grade dd doing the two different levels of this section.

Also, how long should the K math plans take?

And the 1st grade math plans from the Beyond guide?

Thanks to anyone who has taken the time to read this long post and help me out with these times!

Those times seem long to me. Storytime definitely does NOT take 30 minutes. 10 minutes, maybe 15 max if you're doing the writing/drawing along with the story. This will of course depend on how fast you read, as you are doing the reading. I consider myself a fast reader.

I would say they are generally 5 minutes less than you estimated (except music of course, that probably takes 3 minutes or so if you have the CD in place already). "Science Discovery" you have labelled is probably the rotating box, which switches between Art, Science, etc. Those can vary in time depending on any set-up you have to do, and some of the science or craft projects would probably take 15-20 minutes to complete, but they are fun and often you can let the child finish up on their own.

The math and fine motor are 10 minutes each, maximum. Often they will be less time. You may allocate 10 minutes since you are working with 2 children on different workbooks. Math often has a hands-on activity, again this is something that you can do quickly or you can spend more time if your child is having fun and you feel it is beneficial.

Things may take a bit longer when you are first starting the guide, as you get into a rhythm and get used to using it. My 2nd born is in week 31 of LHFHG and it takes us about an hour to do the whole thing, again unless the project part is more time consuming.
