LHFHG 2004 vs 2010

Post by mothermayi » Sun Jun 16, 2013 1:09 pm

I have LHFHG 2004 printing but it looks like there is a newer one (2010?). What are the main differences in the two? I'm trying to decide if I want to get the newer one for my kindy this year or use what we already have.

Thanks!

Content wise there is little to no difference. If you had the books that went along with your 2004 edition it should work just fine (the Uncle Wiggly Bedtime Stories for example is no longer available, so I think the 2010 edition adds changes for that and for a newer edition of History Stories for Children but you may have the older edition of History Stories for Children).

They are actually potentially offering a 1/2 price for a new guide after the one with the new math plans comes out. See, you can't get the math workbook anymore either, so they are rewriting the math plans for a different math workbook, and that affects every day of your plans. In another thread they said they are considering offering 1/2 price for a new guide IF you still have your guide that you originally bought from HOD, you would have to send it back to them. I am really considering taking advantage of this! Were you wanting to start it soon?

That's where I read about the possible 1/2 price option. I am almost finished with LHFHG for my 2nd born and plan to use it with my 3rd and 4th child someday so I am going to go for it if they offer it!

Oh, wow..see, I had no idea there was a new one coming out soon. Thanks lucsch!
Pp, yes, we are starting it in August. I have all of the 2004 components so I would probably have to buy replacements to match the new book, right? I think we will just use what we have for now. Or sell it and buy the new one. When is it due to come out? I am a newbie here so I'm still learning to navigate the site :-). Thanks!

Yes, but you can no longer buy a new version of the math workbook so you would have to substitute something else in for math workbook. I know one person posted they were able to figure out what in the new workbook went with the math activities in the guide. That seems like a lot of work to me, but I guess if you wrote it down you could use that in the future too. I don't have Uncle Wiggly and I have the wrong version of History Stories for Children so I am looking forward to the new one.

We use Math U See Primer for math. It seems like the main difference in the next edition is the math; if I am understanding correctly. I will check out the link you gave me when I get to a computer. My smart phone is actually kind of dumb lol.

I was able to read the post and I agree, it sounds like too much work for me to go thru the books AMD create a math lesson plan. I didn't know the math was hands-on. We tried Singapore with my oldest six years ago and we didn't like it. So we use MUS. However, she is half done with Primer and I need to think about what I want to do. I like the idea of having math integrated with the lessons for the day, rather than be totally unrelated. My kindy would like that.

Yes, there are hands-on activities written in by Carrie, in LHFHG, Beyond, and Bigger. They really help the kids learn the concepts, and they use things we all have around, well you find small snacks for a lot of them, playing cards, yardstick, masking tape. My kids were always excited when it was a "math snack." What is it about playing with your food? :D

I bet if you needed the one new storytime book and new History Stories for Children they would help you out with that too, if you bought a new guide. I think the other books are still part of LHFHG plans. Except also one other, if you were using the 1st grade options for fine motor skills, that workbook also is no longer available and they have changed it to be another of the Rod and Staff preschool books.
