Doing Beyond 4 days instead of 5
Doing Beyond 4 days instead of 5
Does anyone do a 4 day week for Beyond? We are going to be in a co-op on Fridays, so we will only do our lessons 4 days each week. So, I'm just wondering how others would schedule. Do you try to squeeze the 5 days of plans into 4 days?

You could do it a couple of different ways. If you are a 'Day 1 has to be on Monday' person then it probably would be better to do 5 days in 4. That involves either skipping some boxes or doing an extra box or two every day.
Or, if you're like me you just let it take however long it needs to take. We average 4 school days per week. We started Beyond about 6 weeks ago (only I would start a new guide at the end of the school year ) and we will move on to Bigger whenever we end up finishing it. Which may be another year and a half . If you do just 4 days per week without squeezing in the fifth somewhere, it adds 9 weeks to your school year.

You're not the only one, Sara! We started Beyond in May 2012. We just finished it this week, and we did only 4 days a week (or 3 or 2 at times!), picking up wherever we left off the next time we did school. The only modification I made was to shuffle around the grammar/spelling days so that we would if possible do 4 consecutive days with the same spelling list (spelling is tough for my 6 year old). It's been a great year!

Re: Doing Beyond 4 days instead of 5
I took the 5 days of plans and condensed them into 4 days with LHFHG. I found that difficult/impossible with Beyond or Bigger and went to just schooling 4 days/week and picking it up where we left off the following Monday. Preparing is 4 day weeks, so I am looking forward to that! I am sure the days for Preparing are much fuller, each guide has had quite a jump in skills and activities involved.
One thing to keep in mind is that if you are on the early side of the age ranges for the guides, you will have an "extra year" to progress through the guides. That's part of why I have been a little more lax in finishing one guide a year. Of course you could do what many I know have done and have your child start doing college classes their senior year, that seems like a great idea! Or as the other person noted, it will add 9 weeks to your school year, you can school in the summer in order to finish one guide a year.
