Getting Ready for Beyond

Post by glperky » Thu Jun 06, 2013 8:01 pm

The Getting Ready for Bigger thread with pictures was a huge help. Is there one of these for Beyond? Or does anyone have any tips? Is there a supply list somewhere for Beyond? Thanks for the help! :D

You can search by poster and everything. I guess since Julie or Carrie haven't done Beyond for a while maybe it's buried or maybe there wasn't one. That is a pretty awesome post though! Nice that Julie is one guide ahead of me.

I haven't found a post yet (still could be there, buried).

I have read through the guide recently since my 6yo will be doing it this fall.

You need :
1) a notebook for copywork
2) notebook for spelling
or a binder for them, can be combined.
3) index cards for spelling words

also the usual colored paper, pencils, crayons, white paper, scissors, glue, tape, and small objects to use for math - such as chocolate chips, raisins, dry cereal or beans, washers, marbles, etc.

When my oldest was in Beyond, we used a separate notebook for the copywork and spelling. For my 6yo, since he prefers to write small ( & likes having a binder), I plan to use notebook paper in a binder. This can also hold a good bit of artwork.

Beyond was really easy to prepare for! (except the small math objects since we don't keep any of those around the house)
Have Fun!

We will be starting Beyond next too. I am sooooo excited. Hehehe. I have been reading through the guide and getting a feel for it/ getting comfortable with it.

As I am reading through it I have, just for fun, been printing the scripture verses out with pretty backgrounds and leaving a blank _____________ for him to fill in a word here and there on day 5 of each unit. Doing that with some history and science as well.

I would be interested in seeing a supply list if anyone finds one. Apparently I am not "normal". I use cloth napkins instead of paper towels, never bought a pack of toothpicks in my life, etc. LOL. I do read ahead a few days and see what might be coming up though.

At the beginning of the guide there's all kinds of info about what you will need specifically for certain parts of Beyond, and the rest are pretty basic things and I don't know that you would want to buy them all too far ahead anyway. Read a week ahead and see if there's anything you're missing. I should take my own advice. I always come up against something that is common but I just don't happen to have in the house.... then I improvise.

The only thing I've had trouble getting hold of is tempera paint. Apparently no one sells it up here in the sticks :D Go figure.

Everything else has been very simple. One or two notebooks.
Pencils.
Crayons.
Glue.
Regular, washable paint or fingerpaint.
Paint brushes.
Counters for math (preferably edible  ) We usually use nuts or chocolate chips.
Tape, masking tape.
Construction paper.
Index cards.
The one 'supply' that I've used the most for both guides that we're using is definitely the whiteboard/marker board. I highly recommend having one of those :D

That's really all I can find right at the moment. :D Hope that helps a little!
